Rec'd phone from current line-up.

| Hi there,
I'm looking for suggestions on picking a phone for use with
Verizon. I am considering the Kyocera KX1v SoHo, mainly of the subtle
looks(untill I hear otherwise), cheap price, and assumed good battery
life. I'm really not interested in a camera phone(seems like a battery
hog, and waste of space/weight), but would like a color screen
w/external caller-ID display. My main concerns are signal reception,
compactness(otherwis
e I'd choose the Motorola V710), battery life, and
stoutness. I was an old StarTac user(been that long since I'v had
service!), and for whatever reason I have a hard time getting serious
about the LG/Samsung brands.
Thanks for any input.

I don't know anything about Samsung phones but I can confirm that LG
makes good phones. I have a bunch on my plan and my last 3 personal
phones were LG. My buddy was a Startac fan and converted to a vx4500
(color, external display, no camera) about 6 months ago and was quick to
remark that he liked it and it worked better than the Startac.

I changed from a StarTac to a VX4400. It worked ok - but never got the
reception of the startac. After about a year, it became unable to hold
onto a weak signal although it was fine in strong signal areas. Techs
never could figure out why and it was no longer under warrantee.
Went back to StarTac, no problem in weak signal areas.
Finally bought the (yes, bigger and heavier) V710 about a month ago.
Reception and clarity might even be better than my StarTac.
I was tempted to try the Samsung A670 (digital but known to hold a
signal well). I never did so because everyone seemed to think the 710
had the best RF out there and my experience backs that up.

The StarTac runs 600 mw of transmitter power to a better antenna. The VX
runs 200 mw or even less to that little stick. Doesn't take a physics
degree to figure out why the old phones with 3 or more times as much power
to a bigger antenna work better.....(c;

Gotta love Larry. Notice how he ignores not only the fact that the vx4400
has an extendable antenna, but also her statement that her new V710 (which
I bet is also just 200mw) works as well or maybe better than her old
Startac?
