Seriously...yea, I still use and have Verizon. I XXXXX and complain about
them all the time since they hire complete idiots and suck money right out
of people with unethical business practices but my god man...where the XXXX
are some decent phones with this company? While GSM and others have over 20
Bluetooth models easily...this shit company has what...2 or 3? Hell, I'd
like to use a wireless headset one XXXXing day, but with this shit XXX
company your options are so god damn limited to the phones it's pathetic.
I'd still be weary about buying a new Bluetooth from this place anyway since
I've heard stories about how the money sucker bastards cripple features of
the phone so you have to use certain procedures that just suck more money
out of you. Sheesh....rat bastards!

The rumors are just that: rumors. They can't modify bluetooth, it's a
regulated standard. As for money-sucking/bad phone availability: my
store has always carried a crapload of phones, all of which are
reasonably priced (except for the PDA phones, which are ungodly
expensive no matter where you go). Oh, and I have yet to meet an idiot
working there. I can't speak for other places, but here, Verizon is THE
best.

Hey Sean
What do you know about the Verizon/Vodaphone relationship. It's too bad VZW
isn't GSM that way people would have the best GSM network here in the US and
the largest network in Europe too. I just got back from Europe and borrowed
a GSM (MOt Razr) phone to use there on T-Mobile. Thinking that T-Mobile was
the biggest and best. Found out differently when I got outside Germany. Also
they (Vodaphone) have a plan in Europe that looks just like our Americas
Choice. The brochures and everything look the same except it says Vodaphone.
I almost bought the Samsung world phone but the cost!!!!!!!!! Way too much
for what doesn't seem to be that great of a phone. So I got 3 new Mot 815's
instead. BTW we originally got 710's but boy were they buggy and the screens
and cameras basically not so good. Amazing how much better the 815 is.
Anyway it would be really cool if VZW went GSM and we could have "World
Choice" instead of Americas Choice ;-)

So quit whining and go to cingular or T-Mobile with GSM and use any
compatible phone with bluetooth that you like. Evidently bluetooth is
that important to you. If that's the case the solution's obvious!
Verizon can do whatever the heck they want to. They're not obligated
to bring out phones or features. They figure they have the upper hand
in better coverage so they don't have to offer phones or rates as low
as the others. It's your choice. Go with what works for you.
Whining about Verizon's policies won't change anything. Pick yourself
up and go to cingular or T-Mobile. You may be happier then or maybe
you won't.

I know Vodafone has not had a high degree of involvement. I know that they'd
rather own a GSM carrier in the US, and I know that they have, in the past,
wanted to get out of the joint venture.

It would be really stupid if verizon downgraded from 3G cdma to 2g gsm.
gsm can not do as much and what it can do costs more. It would be
really stupid for verizon to switch from cdma to gsm to wcdma. When USA
gsm carriers finally upgrade to wcdma, it will still be inferior to the
then current CDMA of verizon and Sprint PCS.

And let's not forget not ALL countries use GSM. I think China and a
couple other countries use CDMA.

Anyway, buttom line always is not who makes the best phone or has the best
plans, but who provides the best reception for where you need service.

Like I said. You want the bestest coverage you go with Verizon. You
want the kewlest phones you go with cingular or T-Mobile or get your
GSM phone outside of the carrier. Unfortunately it's either one or
the other either kewl phones or the best coverage. Evidently Verizon
doesn't believe they have an obligation to bring out the latest and
greatest phones. Know that and make your choice on what's the most
important thing to you price, different models or the best coverage.+

I really liked Verizon and would never have switched, however Verizon did
not provide reliable coverage in my area in Southern California. Sprint had
a cell site on a small building down the street from my home; hence the
reason that I went with Sprint. Verizon checked the signal in my area and
allowed me to terminate my two year contract. Both Verizon and SprintPCS
rule!!

As far as I know, Verizon and Vodaphone are only very loosely related to
each other. As for not using GSM, almost all cell phone networks in the
US use CDMA, and becuase of that, it would be a very time-consuming and
painful process to just switch over from CDMA to GSM.

It's all about volume here in NJ. There's nothing else involved except how
many people they can sign up or renew contracts. They seriously do not care
about satisfying customer's at all. Plain and simple.

Take a ride here and you'll wonder how people get by....and while you are
still trying to figure out what the sales rep said he's already onto
two-three other customer's. If you don't think quick here, you are doomed.

Verizon can and does modify BT. Anyone can contract for whatever
limited use they want to use BT for. BT is not a regulated standard.
Most of us have *expectations* for BT equipment, based on BT's known
capabilities. Verizon's implementation is an exception.

I beg to differ. Going to GSM would be one amazing leap backward for
Verizon, particularly considering that most GSM carriers are looking to
migrate to UMTS (WCDMA)in the future.

Actually, you can no longer use a GSM phone in Japan. Now it is all
variants of CDMA, and you must have either a UMTS or CDMA handset.

Exactly. Even people how travel internationally to GSM-only countries
would do well to just get a cheap unlocked GSM handset off eBay and use
a prepaid SIM in the location they plan to use their service. It's
cheaper in the long run tahn dealing with the ienternaional roaming
charges from the US carrier back home.

And if using your US mobile number is really worth it to you, you can
still roam on GSM internationally if your home carrier is CDMA, using
the Samsung A790. It's expensive, but then if you're willing to pay
international roaming, then maybe cost isn't your concern to begin with. :)

Well, it USED to be that way, but for now, Cingular and TMobile do make
up a significant portion of GSM users. That said though, both GSM
carriers will eventually upgrade to WCDMA.

Agreed, just like the transition from TDMA to GSM has been painful for
end users andlabor intensive for the carriers, and the same will be true
for the UMTS transition. The straight CDMA carriers, however, have had
a pretty seamless transition with each upgrade.

Maybe it didn't say so in the original message, but with GSM you can
get whatever phone you want as long as it works in the frequencies in
your area. That's not the case with CDMA which is what Verizon and
Sprint PCS use.

Don't know about New York, but I was in Fort Lee NJ today & had no problems
with my phone. I made 5 calls & received four. I'll leave the rest up to you
experts.

Just have to be intelligent MIkey.
Yes VZW plays Bluetooth games.
I don't deny that they do.

But MY e815 does everything Bluetooth
Just took a little effort on my part.

Good phone - now a MUCH better one.

Good phone? It's still a Motorola handset. I don't like the v188 I decided
to get from T-Mo because it was free. My mother-in-law doesn't even like her
fancy-shmancy RAZR all that much.

I'm eligible for a phone discount 11 months into my 12-month contract, so
next summer I plan on getting a better phone.

Richard, from that post it seems your just all about yourself and just like
a dog licks your own XXX. You may as well send out your resume or other
credentials so you can prove to everyone how smart and technical you are.
Always trying to prove yourself, and I was just starting to like you.

Having done a little effort on your part has done what to the phone? You
didn't gain any extra functions, only functions that are suppose to be there
to begin with, right?

Whatever - I have a phone that does what I want.
The rest is semantics.

For the record, I do think that it is horse shit that
VZW plays the games they do. I'm just glad the features
were still there to enable - unlike the 710, which was
'lobotomized'.

Not trying to prove a thing. No need.
Rattle your cage, yes.
Mission accomplished, I see.

But for the poor guy who heard about bluetooth from his friend and decides
to go pick one up from Verizon will then realize all the nice functions his
friend was talking about he can't do not because the phone can't do it, but
because the provider decides not to give customer's the full capability of
the phone. Things like that just piss me off...and it's usually the big
corporate greedy fat mouth screwing the little guy.
