This is incorrect. Theyre instituting a fee (or announcing it) on Sept 1st.
Some kind of regulatory fee increase.
Its a change, and you SHOULD be able to break contract. They have like a 15/30
day window for stuff like that.
Check the archvies of this group, and you should find mention of it. Its a way out.

Since a regulatory fee increase is beyond their control I doubt it could
be cited as a reason to break the contract.

It's an administrative fee and they clearly state in the contract that
fees are subject to change.

Actually, Verizon has taken pains to note that it's a $.40
"Administrative" fee, and is not a tax or regulatory fee.

| You have hit on the "one" secret of disconnecting verizon service; if you
legitimately have moved to an area that 1) doesn't have vzw service, or 2)
is served poorly as "extended", not verizon owned towers.
We have 100% success, and so will you (maybe, or at least worth a try), if
you can provide a Supervisor (it seems it takes that level) with your new
address, and they can confirm that the service doesn't work where you've
moved.
1) call and tell them how much you love the service, but have a problem
2) you've moved to a new location; here is my address, and the service
doesn't work
3) no, I'm sorry, but I don't have anybody to take over my service for x
months.
4) may ask for some mail, utility, something to "verify" your new address
5) ask to be released early, without penalty, in the hope that in the future
they will have service in the area, because you've enjoyed your VZW
experience (blah, blah, blah)
When we could verify for the customer that the new bill address did NOT have
service, we were 100% successful with folks being able to leave their
contract. Works equally well with Sprint. The "key" is 1) it should be
true, 2) you need to prove it, 3) don't yell, or it will never happen. Your
personal mileage may vary. This isn't a cancel for convenience... there is
no obligation to let you out of the contract... but you could just get
lucky. dr

My brother-in-law was able to get out of his Sprint contract with no
problems when he moved to California City, a rural area up near Edwards AFB.
I didn't ask him whether they needed docs or not. Sprint doesn't service Cal
City.

I'm sure that Larry or Xman can help you out here.
Larry claims that VZW has never *forced* anyone to
pay the ETF.

VZW only waives the ETF if you move to a congressional district with
24,000 people in it and where GPS satellites orbit a mere 200 miles
overhead.

Whatever happened to the good old days when the price of the
item was intended to cover the cost of doing business? Maybe
they figure if ebay sellers can charge ridiculous "shipping and
handling" fees that actually cover the ebay fees, they can add
their own version.

In the good old days prices NEVER went up?

Two points:
1) Wireless is one of those odd consumer products where the contract
does *not* lock in the price for the specified term. For example, as a
landlord, it doesn't matter what kind of unexpected expenses I incur, I
cannot pass them on to my tenant until their lease expires. That's the
risk I take in return for the commitment by the tenant to pay the
specified rent for the entire term of the lease.
2) It seems very dishonest to me to advertise one price (to meet the
competition and get customers in the door), knowing full well that there
are a bunch of additional "fees" that the customer does not know about
until they are actually signing the contract. We are talking here about
fees that are universally applied to all customers to cover costs of
doing business, not taxes that vary by jurisdiction. If you need to
raise prices, fine, but be honest about it!

On the other hand, in almost all cases Verizon will honor the
original price and plan even after the contract expires, until the
customer seeks a plan change or seeks to take advantage of a
promotional price on equipment. I don't see any posts here
complaining about that being "odd.". (When I was with AT&T, at the
end of the contract the price went up automatically because "the
promotion was over.")

| Why does everyone keep thinking I want respect or people to be nice to me
here? What the hell do I care? Because you care what people think of you?
Because your opinions and ideas are of all the same and can't differ from
anyone else since you don't want to stand out or be different in anyway.
Lemme tell you....I do not care what anyone thinks of me in anyway on here
nor do I look to be respected or liked at all. I do not care. That's
apparent, can't you all tell??

I already know you don't want courtesy or respect. However, there's still a
problem with you being an XXX if you expect people to listen to you,
because... continue doing it, and eventually they'll stop listening.
And if you don't care if people listen, why do you even waste your time posting?

In fact, that was my point. But by being a jerk, he'll eventually drive
people away and people will eventually stop listening.
