v710 vs e815 - help please

| I bought a V710 about 5 days ago. My only use for bluetooth is to pair
with my car (2005 Audi). I don't use a headset. Works great in the
car, except I can't put the phonebook in the car.
Now Verizon introduces the new E815. Very technically speaking
(please), is there any reason for me to return the V710 for the E815?
I use a phone ONLY for talking - cameras and VCast don't interest me.
I bought the V710 only because of the ability to use it in the car.
I am very impressed with the rf reception of the 710. I previously
used a V60 for about 3 years, and I always thought that it had superior
reception, but the 710 is definitely better.
Bottom line: what are the differences between the 710 and the 815; I
would assume the 815 is a 710 upgrade. True? I understand that I lose
analog if I switch, but I really don't use it anyway. (I'm on Long
Island with very good digital coverage). What are the upgrades? If
analog is not too important to me, should I switch before the 15 day
period expires? Are there any known glitches in the new E815? Does
anyone have any knowledge of it's RF capability?
Thanks very much. Jeff

I have the 710 and am very happy with it. I have played with the 815
in a store and most of the features appear to be the same. The 815 is
all digital and EVDO capable while the 710 is tri mode and not EVDO.
I like the fact that the 710 is tri mode even though on LI you may
never need it. I livee there as well and have never used analog. After
looking at the 815 I don't feel the need to upgrade.
Here is a site with helpful information on cell phones.
Look at the Verizon Phone Discussion/Motorola thread at the top for
more user comments on the the 710 and 815
http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=51
Unless you feel the need to have the latest phone issue, IMHO you
should keep the 710 if you are happy with it

| I have both the V710 and E815. My other half has the E815 purchased
about a month ago.
There is no reason to buy an E815 as they function the same. In fact
the V710 does analog as well as digital and the E815 only digital.
I have a Parrot wireless handset in my car and we can both use it
beautifully using the directories in the handsets themselves. This
function is really great. All we have to do is disconnect one phone
and connect the other. Very easily done by the passenger.
I really cannot find any real differences between the two phones from
a user functionality profile.

| #1 - e815 has EVDO - (the 710 is 1XRTT only)
#2 - with a slight bit of effort, you can enable OBEX file transfer on the e815
(it is IMPOSSIBLE with a 710)
#3 - with a slight bit of effort, you can use the e815 for tethered data (see #1)
There are many more, but the above three reasons are MORE than enough

There are so many improvements in the 815 over the 710 too numerous to
mention! For one thing, the outside display stays illuminated (rather dimly
but illuminated) and the 710 doesn't. There are many more voice commands on
the 815 compared to the 710. One example is that with the 710 if you want to
voice dial, first you hit the command button (either on the phone itself or
on the headset), it asks what you want to do, you say 'name dial' (for
instance), then you say the name. If there is more than one entry for a
given person (home, mobile, etc) it then asks you which entry (home, mobile,
etc) and you say that.
On the 815 you just say (for example) 'call jack home' to call an entry
named jack in your phonebook that is his home number. Much much simplified
and better (IMHO). There are also many more voice commands that you can use
with the 815 compared to the 710.
Twice as many phonebook entries, better bluetooth functionality (albeit with
a bit of hacking), better camera, and on and on..
I will be getting my (free) E815 on Oct. 5, when my new every two kicks in.
I currently have a V710.

| Yep I forgot EVDO. But yo have to have it in your Verizon area. I
don't.
Also, yep, on the OBEX file transfer. I just use the SD Flash card and
do it that way. I forgot.
Thanks.

But only to show the clock, unlike on previous phones, like the T730,
where the external display with the backlight off contains the same
information as when the backlight is on, such as signal and battery
strength as well as time and date.

I'll grant you that being able to combine the command, name, and
specific entry at one shot is nice. But on the 710, you just need to say
"name" or "digit" to specify name dial or digit dial.

For me in the West, the lack of analog on the 815 is a showstopper.
There are a LOT of roaming partners out here without CDMA, and on the
edge of even VZW coverage areas, often analog will work when CDMA won't
due to signal timing (distance from tower) issues (direct personal
experience).
For pure call handling functionality, the 710 is as good as the 815.
Only if you want the EV-DO data speed, better camera, or richer voice
dial functionality is the 815 better.

But after you say 'name' and then say the name, if there are multiple
entries for the same name (home, mobile, etc) you have to say that. Not
nearly as quick or efficient as the E815...

I don't have such a problem here in Southern NJ....:-)

Did you forget about being able to use the speakerphone while the phone is
closed??
No, I'm sorry, the improvements over the 710 are too many to pass up (for a
free upgrade as of Oct. 5)...

| The e815 cannot "legally" use DUN to connect your laptop to the internet
without paying extra. Of course the v710 is a bit slower, but it is
contractually allowed. Still twice as fast as 56K dialup.

That matters not as far as I'm concerned since I don't intend to use DUN to
connect my laptop to the internet..

Then why not use the 710 and stop asking what the differences are and
then saying back you don't care. Stop bitching and use want you want
What the heck do we care!!!! You got good advice and refuse to
listen/use it......so shut up and shit down.
