Erroneous fees when cancelling, if using autopay on final bill

| I just cancelled my Verizon service.
I looked at my final bill, and saw that it was dated as of my
termination date. This was before the monthly billing cycle, and thus
before the monthly autopay cycle.
The final bill saw an "unpaid" balance from the prior bill and charged
me a late fee. The prior bill autopaid on time, just after the early
final bill cycle ran through.
I had to call Verizon, explain the issue, and get a credit for the late
fee.
It seems like this is a systematic bug, and will happen to anyone with
autopay who terminates service. So if you cancel, watch for this fee,
and call in for a credit.

No, if you cancel, call your bank and put a stop to autopay from your
account....that'll stop it...(c;

| Verizon Wireless billing errors are ALWAYS in their favor and never the
customer's. The billing software was written specifically to do just
that...NEVER make a billing error in the customer's favor. Verizon spent a
ton of money to have their system this way.

That certainly won't work. Autopay can only be terminated with the
acknowledgment of the recipient. Try cancelling autopay on one of your
accounts and let me know how it goes. This is the specific reason that
anyone with financial savvy does not autopay.

"Financial savvy"? Anyone with financial savvy knows
that "possession is 90% of the law" doesn't apply to
financial things. You over pay and they refund. Is that
such a big deal? It's not finders keepers.

My bank says that if one asks them to not pay an autopay, they will
treat it as a stop-payment order on a check, and bill you accordingly.
Closing the account is the only sure way to force the autopay to stop,
and even then you can be subject to an overdraft charge if the autopay
hits the now-empty checking account.
Wireless companies aren't the only ones who who are fond of lots of fees.
