Don't know just which phone you have, but you must enter pauses between the
*86 and the password. Usually 2 pauses (shown as pp in the case of my
Motorola V710, which if I remember right are 2 seconds each) are enough. You
also must put a # (pound sign) at the end of the password/pin.
So the whole entry looks like this: *86ppxxxx# (the xxxx represents the
password).
It's probably in your manual for the phone if you bothered to read it...:-)

I have my Cell number in place of the *86. This works on VZW native,
Extended Network & Roaming to retreive your voicemail.

We used to do that until they 'fixed it' a while back so that dialing your
own VZW number didn't count as a Mobile to Mobile call... Nowadays it
doesn't matter which you use, you still pay for the call (based on what time
of day it is).

Unless you call from a landline.

Well yes, of course if you call your own cell number from a landline
(assuming it's a local call) it'll cost you nothing. But we were talking
about calling into your voicemail from your cellphone.

| Yes, but the important part to me is that it works no matter where you're
calling from, as he said.
*86 doesn't usually work in EN nor Roaming.

BUT... the first person to mention it ("IMHO IIRC") didn't say he did it to
save money, he said he did it so it would work even when roaming. So, your
knee-jerk reaction to him was off base.
