Author Question:Early temination
gee

i was wondering if anybody had any luck with early temination with a
verizon cell phone account.i want to get out of my contract in a bad
way.i read on a legal advive website that they cannot legally hold you
to the temination fees.when i called verizon and tried to use that, they
told me that they can legally hold me to it.

i was going to try the dropped call excuse next.

any opinions or experiences anybody had would be appreciated.

Why the need for early termination?

Most carriers will allow you to switch plans, mid stream,
if you'll agree to extend your contract. (Basically, you
start you "new" contract from the day you switch plans.)

Ask them about renegotiating the rate or the plan. Often they will do
that...

It's very rare that some one gets out of Verizon's stone clad
contract...specially if you are just shopping around. It's less frustrating
and much less painful to some times just pay it. Fighting a company like VW
is futile. The customer will never win. It's not like other companies that
make better offers to keep you. Good luck with what ever route you take.

Yes, they can hold you to it. That's what you agreed to. It's
called a contract, and you can rest assured the courts will enforce
it.

You might want to check with where you work. Many employers have a
negotiated agreement with a wireless carrier to provide discounted
service, and often that discount can extend to employees of the company
who have their own personal accounts with the same wireless carrier.
Mine offers a 15% discount on Verizon Wireless monthly service, and
additional discounts on phones.

Also, FWIW, while there are the lower tier carriers (Sprint, T-Mobile)
that offer cheaper plans, you get what you pay for. I learned this the
hard way on Sprint. Just making sure you have fair warning. Just make
sure taht if you switch, you test the service out VERY thoroughly where
you live and work, and frequently travel, before your trial period is up.

I wonder if that's the same site that explains why
you legally can't be held for your federal taxes?

If I were you I would contact Larry on this news group.
Larry can advise you in this matter. Larry also has proof
that VZW has never *forced* anyone to pay the ETF (I
guess everyone just pays it voluntarily).

If you have a legitimate reason to back out of your
obligations you should bring that up directly with VZW.
Otherwise Larry is definitely you best bet.

If you happen to move into an area not-served by VZW, then they "might"
consider an early termination. Not-Served, also means extended area. But
you need to "move" there, verify that is your new home base, and have a
street address to back it up. And if they have reported problems in that
area (from the local provider), they "might" allow you to early terminate
without penalty. dr
