Author VZW Treo 650 refuses access to Palm Desktop?

A friend of mine has a Treo 650 on VZW and runs Palm Desktop for his
appointments/calendar, contact list/phone numbers on a WinXP box. The
interface is the USB to Treo cable, the black one with the pushbutton on
the phone end of it to start HotSync.

It was totally unconnected when I got it.

The 650 was connecting to the OS and putting its icon on the System
Hardware list, but there was no connection from there to Palm Desktop, at
all. Failing to get it working, I downloaded a new Palm Desktop from
Palm and re-installed the software on the PC box. It loved that.....

Most of the modules sync'd the first time with Hotsync just fine, but I
got error 4004 telling me the 650 refused access to sync the calendar,
contact list and one other piece.

I read on palmone about some problems with earlier firmware, so am
charging his battery up to do the upgrade to the latest off the Palm
website, tomorrow. I hope this cures the problems. There's no way to
upgrade these three modules. I even switched HotSync in the computer to
override the data in the 650 and force the calendar/contact list/etc.
into the phone. No go. Palm Desktop switches those preferences back to
sync.

Will the hard reset caused by the firmware upgrade reset the various
databases to nul so the computer can shove the data into them anew?

Any help greatly appreciated. I'm not a Palm person. I carry a paper,
ringbound pocket notebook which sync's right up with my pen...(c;

Any hard reset of a Palm device is supposed to result in the desktop
software recognizing the naked device and shoving the data from the PC to
the handheld. However, you should make a backup of your desktop data files
to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the info. I think the reason it won't sync is the two databases
are so far apart it runs out of memory, or something like that.

I'll try that, now that I have the office network up and running smoothly.

Larry;

I had this same problem with my Treo. I was trying to sync it with both
the Palm Desktop and the VZW Syncexpress site. Although it isn't
mentioned in any of the material I have, the Verizon tech told me that
you have to choose which one to sync to (can't use both).

Hope that helps.
