Author Recommend VZW phone with usable modem

I'm on Verizon and would like to have the option to use 1xRTT -- not
enough to justify a data plan, just NA/MOU occasionally when traveling.
I've tried a cable setup with my current phone, a Nokia 6015i, and
unfortunately it sems that Verizon disables the modem on that model.
Can anyone recommend a cheap-ish but decent phone with a usable modem,
maybe something I could buy off Ebay? Either cable or Bluetooth
connection would be OK. Aside from the modem I don't need any special
features like a camera, MP3 player, speakerphone, fancy ringtones, mole
preener...

Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you can find an Audiovox CDM9550, it worked well for internet for me
for 3 years. About 2 hours on the battery and great signal. Even with
one bar with iffy voice, it got good internet connection. I can even
sell you the Mobile Office kit <g>. I had to send back the phone for a
new in 2. The phone is a Tri-mode.

The only reason I traded it in was because after 3 years the battery was
wearing out and I could get a new phone for free so why buy a battery?

I've used my Samsung a650 with a USB cable for 1xRTT connections but it was
so painfully slow I ended up going with a BroadbandAccess account and EVDO
PC Card... YMMV.
