Author Taking my 7135 to Verizon store - what to expect?

Been having problems the last week with my 7135. I've been told I cut
out every few words for about 2 seconds. Happens everywhere, fully
charged battery, on headset or without.

What is the Verizon store going to do? Tell me to call LockLine? Send
it for repair?

Just looking for some idea of what to expect. Yep, I was a indirect
dealer about 3 years ago, but we were corporate, and the extent of
what we did was if a phone was under warranty, send it for repair and
give the customer a loaner, but again we were corporate, so we didn't
deal with 1 end user, but a large company.

Thanks.

The common practice at present seems to be that the store will swap the
phone out for a refurbished unit. If they have a refurb on hand they'll
do it on the spot; otherwise, they'll order one and have it fedexed.

Of course if the handset is out of warranty and you have insurance, then
they're going to have you call Asurion (as they are the insurance
provider for Verizon Wireless, instead of LockLine).

Nope. Not the 7135. Not supported any more (and it's not
e911 capable). Expect to get a Treo 650. Most likely you
will get a free replacement (no extension on contract either).

Do not go to the store first. Call data services directly, not
regular CS (800-922-0204?). Tell them how it's malfunctioning.
Possibility they will have you try a couple of resets. End result
should be they send you a Treo 650 directly with a return mailer
for your 7135. Be prepared. You get 15 days? to return the
7135. If not you buy the Treo. Migration may not be simple.
Especially if you've highly customized your 7135 are running
older apps or dependent on hacks. Plan ahead.

oops, Left out that the above would be because
the Treo 650 is running Palm OS5 and the 7135 is
running Palm OS4.1.2.

VZW has the 650 with or without camera (yeah!).

There isn't anything wrong with my 7135 and I'll be
hanging on to it until it dies. I really don't suffer with
the slower cpu or lower res screen. but...
clam shell
grafiti input
analog
heavily customized ROM
using a lot of obsolete software and hacks

Made a call to Data Services. Turns out my account was set for Analog.

My phone wasn't in Analog at the time of the calls (I looked), but
apparently the switch was trying to send me analog or something. My
call was answered very quickly, and the rep, Dianne was very helpful
and nice.

Go Verizon!

The data services people are generally very good (sort of like
second tier tech support). The 7135 has been special cased.
Stores and CS aren't supposed to deal with the phone any more.
Any problems involving the phone itself are supposed to be
routed to data services.

Nice! I didn't even know that was still possible.

But then again, "PIN code exemption" appears as a "feature" on my
account, so I presume the system is still set up to presume that ESN
cloning is still rampant.
