I need advice.
I was thinking of getting an E815 but wanted to see if I should wait
for a newer model out soon.

PS: I have looked at the RAZR already but did not want it

Thx

In that case, you may as well stick with the E815.

Technically, there will be no "replacement" for the E815, as just about
every phone released from this point forward will likely run the Verizon
User Interface (the E815 uses the standard Motorola Interface). The
Verizon UI gets mixed reviews, so if you're in the camp that hates it,
then you should get the E815 while it's still out there.

I personally "tolerate" the Verizon UI when I have to, but now that I
have a Blackberry, it's a non issue.

What phone now have the Verizon UI? If it is LG then I like it far
better than the Moto.

The LGs do have the interface. If you like it, good for you. I've
found it to be awkward, but then they say you can get used to hanging by
your thumbs.

Isaiah Beard:

Now, that's funny. Was wondering if you know if the E815 will be changed
over in the near future or will they leave a good thing alone? I have an
E815 and want to replace the wife's phone in March with one.

Why do you find it awkward?

One thing I do not like the fact that your images and sounds are hidden
under Get It Now.

Another thing I do not like it the text to speech voice. It does not
seem to read the names well at all. Even simple names such as Fix.
Funny you seem to be able to recognize the longer names a lot easier
than the short ones. I think the problem is that it speaks too quickly.

Other than that it is pretty easy to use.

Yo Ed,

I have owned my e815 for approx. 6 months now and there IS NO OTHER
phone that has the reliability that this rig has. I have never lost a
call. NEVER. The smallbox actually has decent personal sound quality
for an MP3 player. Need extra space for your tunes.... Just throw
down on a 512mb transfalsh card for your fav. data & aud. files.
Motorola also makes an FM reciever that comletes the aud. pkg. I would
stop here but there's also a camera. so its only a 1.3 mpix. If you
want a camera, just buy one. Which I did.

Ed, It's your move......

Now do the right thing.

Well, there HAS been rumors that a future firmware update will replace
the E815's interface with the Verizon UI. And technically it IS
possible, as the Verizon UI is simply a BREW app that runs resident;
something that could be easily done on the E815. But while I can't
predict what VZW will do, I think if they really wanted to mess with it,
they would have done so by now.

Besides, while there's no guarantees, IF Verizon did in fact screw
around with the E815's interface, chances are a $15 data cable and a few
software downloads at the direction of some of the gurus at
Howardforums.com will allow you to get the old firmware back. The
E815's been pretty extensively hacked and mapped out by some of those
folks, so it shouldn't be too hard.

1. The interface is slower than most native menu systems; this can't be
helped when you're running a BREW app over what *should* be there.
Maybe some people don't care, but when I'm dialing a phone, I like for
it to keep up with me.

2. The interface is not customizeable to the level that a phone menu
system has been in the past. Don't like the color red? Tough, you're
stuck with it. Change fonts? Nope, can't do it either. What about a
3D object oriented interface, as on some Samsung and Sanyo phones?
Sorry, it *might* be there, but you can't access it because Verizon
doesn't want you to.

3. The Verizon UI changes the behavior of the predictive text input. On
the E815, the predictve text interface learns as it goes along. On the
RAZR however, predictive text remained as dumb as the day I took it out
of the box, making the same goofs over and over again. On the E815, I
could also modify the order in which text entry modes would cycle, in
order to fit my preference. The Verizon UI on the other hand, seems to
think it knows best, even though it was usually wrong in my case.

There was more, but I can't think of it all off the top of my head.
Fortunately I'm on Blackberry now.

The Verizon UI isn't a deal breaker for me as it is for some people, but
it comes in very low on the list of interfaces I'd like to use, and I'd
just as soon not use it if I could instead use something else. I'd much
prefer the interface to be switchable; that way you could use whatever
the phone manufacturer felt was a great interface if you like to use
that instead, BUT, if you want support or help from Verizon, you just
switch the Verizon UI back on and let them guide you through changing
settings in the standardized way their reps would know how. It can't be
hard; BREW apps are loaded, executed and terminated all the time on
handsets. The Verizon UI need not be any different.

Ah yes, another thing I didn't like. :)

I never found the voice dialing to be a problem, though the RAZR seemed
less accurate at it than the E815 when I tried it, for some reason.
