Author VX8300 and 8100 data cables, and ?

2006-10-13, 10:33 pm

We just added a vx8300 to our plan and I've decited to get a data cord but would like to
be able to use the same cord on my 8100.
After some looking they dont seem compatible but the vzw site makes no
distinction between the 2 cords.
Could anybody clear this up for me?
Also can anybody could recommend a reliable online retailer or ebay seller for cords
Lastly is there any tricks for the 8300? eg: on my 8100 you can unlock the mp3 option.
Thanks

To unlock the MP3 player, follow the instructions in this thread on

Not sure about the data cable.

The VX8100 has three notches (for keying) on the phone's I/O recepticle.
The VX8300 has only two. So you can't plug a VX8100 cable into a VX8300.
But you CAN plug a VX8300 cable into a VX8100. This is why they now sell
one cable that works for both...because it only has two notches.

If you're really careful, you can modify the VX8100 cable by removing
(by filing or cutting) the middle notch. That is what I did. It saved me
a few bucks!

I have a 6100 with the a data cable that has 3 notches. Do the 6100 and
8100 use the same cable?
