Verizon's 10mb/Month Plan

| Can anyone tell me what 10mb equates to as far as e-mail usage is
concerned? We are going on a short trip next month and am considering
adding the plan to my wife's phone to use with her laptop while we are
gone so she can check e-mail regularly.

If you download one 10mb message, that'll use up the entire month's
allotment.
The average page size is 32kb. I don't know how much e-mail your wife
gets or sends (outside of those pictures that she's posting....) but
you may be better off finding a Starbucks and paying for a pay-per-use
tmobile account.

If it's really a short trip, why not get unlimited data added just for
the duration? It's $60/month, but you can add it when you are ready to
depart and cancel it when you return rather than paying for the entire
month.

Sounds like a good idea..thought that a new contract was required with
the "unlimited" plan....is a evdo phone necessary? She has an LG6100
and the data plan option shows under her account info. We already use
VZAccess with her phone occassionally with a 1X connection.
Would the data plan provide anything better?

Hmm... If you are already using 1x (for minutes of use only, I assume) why
would you even consider a $60/mo data plan for temporary use?
To answer you other question... yes, in order to get faster than 1x speed
you would need an EVDO capable phone as well as being in an EVDO supported
area.
I'd say stick with what you've got.

A contract is required for the unlimited data "plan" but not to add
unlimited data as a "feature" to your voice plan. You would only buy the
data "plan" for a PC Card, PDA/phone, Blackberry, or Smart Phone, not
for a regular cell phone.

An EVDO phone is not necessary. You will get the 144 kbps National
Access network with your current phone.

Whoa! If you are already using free access, don't sign up for a paid
plan. When you cancel the paid plan, you may well use the free access
you have now.
You would gain nothing by paying for the data access you have now, and
you would get no better data service.

burst speeds of 144k.
