Unable to activate new phone online
|
|
|
| So i just got a new NET V3m, and I want to swap it into the rotation in
my family plan. In order to activate it, I had to assign it to the
primary number, but that's not where I want it to stay. I want it to go
to my other phone line.
I had asked this question here earlier, and was assured that it'd be
easy to do this online (swap numbers assigned to two handsets).
I have tried to go to the activation screen on VZW.com, and select
"Activate Existing or Replacement Equipment". I then enter one of the
two phone numbers with the ESN from the opposite handset. (I've tried
both the numeric and the hex ESN). Nothing seems to work. I just get
this error: "Your request failed and cannot be completed online. Please
contact Customer Service at 800-922-0204 to activate your equipment."
Do I need to do anything to prep the phone to be swapped? Is there
something I'm missing? The phones have been off during these attempts.
thanks
Matt

| I found when I got a Razr (NE2) on my primary line, but wanted activated on
my wifes family plan secondary line, I had to have it activated by calling
Vzw. Something about the initial EVDO upgrade that wasn't on the old
account for her number. Vzw did not charge me for the over the phone
activation since I tried to do it online. I think once you get them to
activate the EVDO phone, you can switch ESNs online. If you are upgrading
and use Mobile Web, make sure they setup the account for Mobile Web 2.0 or
you will have problems using the Razr to browse.

| I added a new VX8300 phone and a line to my family share plan. I activated
it with the new number but there was no way my 14 yr old son was getting
this new phone. I was going to give him my old phone.
I tried doing it online but like you it didn't work. I called the 800
number they did it in about 5 minutes no problems.
The reason it doesn't work is because you can move a number to phone that is
already in the system with an existing number. I guess its because it
doesn't have anywhere to put the old number.

I trust you were entering a phone's ESN that was already inactive, and
that phone was E911 capable. From what I've seen here, if a phone is
already active in their system, you cannot activate it again. IOW, to
swap two phones around, you need a total of three E911 capable phones.
Is this how you tried it?

| I thought I heard somewhere that it was a VCast thing.
Any VCast phone had to be manually activated.

| Your experience is the same I had. Since the initial activation of an EVDO
or VCAST phone, I have no problem with online activations. They said there
was a system option they had to set initially that could not be set online.

The same thing happened to me a few months ago. Their website is totally
screwed up.
Call VZW and tell them your plight. They won't charge you.

| Ok, thanks for advice. I'll give them a call today and see what
happens.
To answer a question: I was only using two (active) phones, and they
are both e911 capable. Perhaps I'll try online once more with the third
phone as a 'place holder' for the phone number while I swap the other
two.

| Ugh. Had get the supervisor to waive the $40 fee. They didn't seem real
willing to do it, despite my pleading that I tried to use the www site
first.
They did it for me, so I can only assume that I can now go to the www
site and move the phones around, should I so desire (which I don't
now.)
Thanks for the help.
