| Please help me out here folks. I have been looking at the XV6700 from VZZ.
They want $399 with a 2 year contract extention ($500 without a contract).
Why shouldn't I buy one of these "like new" XV6700s off eBay for anywhere
from $190 to $250? All the sellers say 100% functional etc. Any horror
stories? Words to the wise?

| Make sure seller gives/shows you the phone ESN and you verify with Vzw that
the ebay phone can be put on the network. Some disreputable phone sellers
are trying to unload stolen phones. If phone is reported lost/stolen
carrier will not activate phone.

Ditto what the other guy said about checking the ESN first. I've purchased
about 15 phones from Ebay over the years and only had one problematic unit--
and the seller took it back.
I do recommend buying from a private party rather than some acumulator who
purchases turn-ins by the hundreds and just resells them around on Ebay.
Make sure the seller has a very high feedback rating. If he has any negative
ones, especially recently, read his response to it-- that tell you about
what kind of guy he is and how he'll probably handle any problem you might
have with the phone.
You probably know this-- but when you get your new phone, you can activate
it yourself for free at the VZW website.

A few months ago I asked for the same advice. I contacted the seller
for the ESN and then checked with VZ to make sure it could be activated.
I made sure the phone came with a charger and the user manual. I bought
from an individual, not a phone seller. I bought the phone I wanted at
a good price from an honest person and I'm happy. I couldn't activate
it online, but VZ CS was able to do it and there was no charge.
