I upgraded to a Samsung i730 and now have some questions
|
|
|
| Hope you can help:
1) It came with Wmobile 2003. A free upgrade to wmoble 2005 is
available. Should I upgrade? VZW Tech said I would lose some stuff
like picsel browser.
2) a magazine review i read said that because it is wifi capable i
could use a skype phone on it? I have used skype a few times and liked
it. How would I use skype on the phone?
3) I normally use Yahoo email so I signed up for yahoo plus, and
followed their guidelines to open an account on MS Outlook. I can't
get activesync to download my email.
4) The i730 has locked upfor me a few times. I have to remove the
battery to fix it. It usually locks up on Notes. Any sugesstions?
Thanks for any response,
Norm

Yes...WM5 is much better than 2003. I don't know what picsel browser
is. I administrate about 10 of these phones for work.

I guess I am missing something. Why would you want to use Skype when
you have a cell phone?

You'll have to be more specific to get help on this problem.

| Thanks Nfuego and Tom for responding,
So the VZW tech was wrong about 2005. I will go ahead and upgrade to
wmobile 2005,then.
About skype and wifi, OK, forget Skype (unless I wanted to call my
friends in Mexico). What use is Wifi, then?
Thanks again,
Norm

| I think it is faster for internet access when you are in 1X locations where
the EVDO isn't turned up yet.
To be honest - I don't use the wifi much on my phone.

It's kind of a gizmo thing that goes with the phone being a fully functional
PDA. You can access the Internet, of course. And Skype has a nice little
program you can download that lets you use it on a mobile phone or PDA. If
you're frequently close to a free wi-fi hot spot *and* you often go over
your minutes limit *or* you call overseas a lot, then Wi-Fi/Skype are a nice
bonus. If not, it's just another gizmo that eats up battery. Like the PDA
functions :)
I have to say though, I was not impressed with the Samsung model you
purchased. Battery life was terrible and the phone seemed either too large
or too thick or something. And Windows 200x should really get its act
together on the voice dialing, which IMHO is awful. But heck, it's a gizmo.

I have to be honest with you Norm. Here is what I have experienced.
I have the 730 also.I did the upgrade to Mobile-5. NOTHING is really working
better, some worse...
It's a usual "Windows" "Im going to do what I want piece of shit now"
It will fire up it's Wi-Fi when it damn well feels like it.It pesters you
with a shitload of dumb messages.
It now has problems completing voice dialed numbers, but not all the time.
Internet Exploder works a tad better.
Sometimes the backlight wont come back on, needs to be restarted to get it.
Sometimes will stop ringing after 2 rings and drop the call.
The "Charge" indicator finally works correctly
All things considered..I would like to go BACK to 2003....It too had a few
problems. but was a lot more stable.
Just my 2 ¢ worth....
