Razr V3C and OBEX, Bluetooth
|
|
|
| I just purchased the Razr and as of this date, the OBEX bluetooth connection
is still active in phones from Verizon.
I can make an instant connection with my computer and transfer pictures and
tunes without a hitch.
Songs downloaded in MP3 can be transferred to the phone for ringtones.
Reception beats any phone I have ever had. I cannot compare it to the 815.
For a phone with good clarity, small size and Bluetooth OBEX, it can't be
beat.

Now if they had a transflash it would be perfect more or less.

VZW website says this phone does not support OBEX.
*The RAZR V3c supports the Wireless Headset & Handsfree Bluetooth Profiles.
It does not support Bluetooth object transfer (OBEX) profiles.

Yea, thats what they say, not what they do, two people I work with who
just got them say different once I setup their dongles on their laptops
and put the widcom drivers in. They also paired up with my jensen head
unit in my jeep and downloaded the phone and contacts list which my 815
won't do. Don't know if it was a mistake on vzw's part and a whole
production run slipped thru or if it's a quiet admission of defeat :-)

Imagine all those nickels and dimes falling through their greedy hands!

I must be thick headed or something but I still don't understand what is the
advantage of 'downloading the contacts list' to a bluetooth device such as
your head unit?? Doesn't the BT head unit work with what's already in the
phone's contact list??

Makes it much easier to see and page thru a contact list with a 2" x 6"
inch lcd vs the 2"x2" on the phone where I have to pay alot more
attention with a harder to read device. Thats part of the cripping, HS
and HF do not support phone list/contact list downloading, obex does.
Also while the phone mostly resides in the hangup cup alot of times it
gets left in a jacket hanging up, tool kit, pants pocket where I can't
get to it while driving.

Thanks for the explanation! I think that the excellent voice dialing
capabilities of the E815 make it so that d/ling the contact list is rather
unnecessary. I know that on my own 815, I open the flip very seldom when in
the car (on BT of course, and using my H700 headset) I use those voice
command capabilities 99.9% of the time.
In other words, scrolling through a contact list (either on the phone itself
or through a BT device that has d/led the contact list from the phone) seems
to me to be about as distracting as holding the phone up to one's ear.
Speaking of BT headsets, have you seen the new H5 miniblue headset from
Motorola?? It's a tiny little thing that fits into your ear canal and uses
bone conduction to pick up your voice. It doesn't have much talk time
though. Here's a link to it on Motorola's website.

Looks wonderful, but the only clue to a price I found after searching
several sites MIGHT HAVE said the price was $489 or 402 euros. Great
earpiece or not, for those prices I'd want a cool phone included. I bet
it's cheaper than that. I hope so.

If John McCain gets the 2008 Republican Presidential nomination,
my vote for President will be a write-in for Jiang Zemin.

I got to have one of those! Only thing dubious about it is
that there appears to be a button on it. It can't be that small
or go that far in your ear if it has a button on it.

It has to have a button on it, for things like disconnecting a call or
starting voice command mode. Guess if you're used to Blueberry keyboards
or teensy little dial keys on bar phones, you can handle the teensy button
on the teensy headset. Maybe it comes with a teensy stylus to push the
teensy button with?

No stylus, just a box of Q-tips . . ...

Silly boy! Only the piece on the right side of their picture goes into your
ear, not the whole thing!
Still, I bet it'll cost a pretty penny. I'm not really interested in it, but
thought others here might.

Yes, I know that. I'm familiar with and like ear canal
phones. The real leap forward here is the mic. I'm not
sure what the noise canceling properties of your face is
but picking up the sound of your voice from the sound
conducted internally through your head would certainly
eliminate wind noise problems if nothing else.
Not sure if you're familiar with binaural sound recordings.
My headphone amp employs a crossover which takes a
small percentage of the sound from one channel, delays
it a couple of 100 ms and feeds it into the other channel.
This accounts for the sound from your left that reaches
your right ear traveling through your head (delayed) when
listening live.

| They're also releasing a rectal version for those who use their phones in
restaurants, theatres and trains.
