Author Phone does not exist?

I searched phonescoop for a bar-style phone with extendable antenna,
speakerphone, GPS and GIN-support (with the aid of GIN's web site).

No hits.

I realized, after looking for a flip-style phone, that if I am in the car,
with gloves on, watching the road, I want to be able to blindly reach for
the phone, even if it is in my jacket pocket, hit a button for
speakerphone (just by feel), select the phonebook, or just dial, and never
actually have to look at the phone for more than 2 seconds.

Also, with slippery/gloved hands, flip phones can be a pain to open,
whereas a bar phone is, by design, always opened.

Additionally, I want to gain access to weather radar, particularly during
the summer, thus GIN is required.

I don't want to spend more than $150, and I want the longest battery life
possible, thus PDA phones are of no interest to me.

Finally, I DO want AMPS coverage.

If there is a non AMPS phone that still meets my needs, please show me.

Any leads?

Thanks.

Not sure if it has GIN but the Nokia 6015 is still available at
independent retailers. It also can be purchased as a prepaid phone but
activated on your account if you do not activate it on prepay.

It is interesting that the OP doesn't want a flip phone because of the
problems of opening it with gloves on, yet he wants one with an
extendable antenna. I guess he will extend it with his teeth. :> )

But if he is wearing gloves, it better have big buttons.

I thought the same thing. Other than opening the phone the buttons on a
candy bar are a similar size and then there is the antenna.

The OP will grab the phone by the extendable antenna, as was done on the
OP's now disabled Motorola 270c. If the antenna can be extended
with the gloves, so much the better ;-)

Add this to my previous post.
Why not just get a Motorola e815.
IIRC, it is tri-mode, has extendable antenna, speaker-phone
GIN All you want. Only caveat is this. It's a flip.
Put it on speaker-phone and set to auto answer and you'll not
have to open it to talk.

You have a tall order Scott. Some observations for other posts:
The Moto e815 doesn't have AMPS, but has been rated as the best phone on
VZW's network by some PC magazine, but it's still a flip.
The Nokia 6236 is candy bar, GIN, and speakerphone, but all digital and no
antenna. It does have an FM radio however.
The Nokia 6256, which is only available at Circuit City and perhaps Best Buy
has everything you want, but is a flip :(
The Kyocera KX414 doesn't have a speakerphone, but everything else ( I
personally would like the speakerphone over other options)
I just got a new Samsung a950, whereas it's all digital and a flip (and
really flashy), it has a great speakerphone and a great voice activated
dialing feature (literally just speak "call " whomever in your contact list
and it does). I was split between the Samsung, moto e815 and the nokia 6236.
Best of luck picking out your phone,

And the KX444 is tri-mode, has speaker phone, but no extendable
antenna, and you must have one of those damn PTT plans to use it.

The E815 is NOT tri mode, it's digital only!

And you can NOT put it on speakerphone and have it auto-answer. You can
leave the phone closed and have it auto-answer with Bluetooth, but not
speakerphone..

Thanks for the corrections Bob.
At least with my VX8100, I can set it to auto answer on speaker phone.
I do however, have to leave the phone flip open to do this

I think I may end up settling with the V325, which, although it is a flip
phone, has all the main features I am looking for, including directions
(VZ Nav). My contract isn't up until November, so I have time for its
bugs to get worked out and see how the market evolves from now 'til then.

Thanks to all.

The V325 has to be the cheapest feeling phone on the market.
It's even worse than the e815.
The phone feels like a mechanical bag of bolts.
My guess is one drop and it will explode.
I wouldn't go near one if I were you.

Dropped a V265 the other day. Both front and back popped off. I popped
them back on and phone works just fine.
