They're both excellent cards and will perform pretty much identically
on their own. What the 620 has over the 5740 is an external antenna
jack.

I actually upgraded from the 5740 to a Kyocera KPC650 for this reason
alone.

good move. IMO with everything else being more or less equal, the nod
should always go to the card with an external antenna connection. i'd
actually prefer a lesser performing card with that connection over a
better performing card without the connection. of course, we mainly
use wi-fi when we're out in our camper. in those situations the
ability to pull in a distant signal is uppermost.

True, but the Kyocera KPC650 also has the distinction of being the
best receiver out of the bunch. Pretty much all the user reviews
confirm this.

no argument, AC. but in our type situation the laptop is in the
motorhome which has a fibreglass body and a steel frame. i usually
have to get pretty close to the front windshield to get a good signal
and that assumes that the transmitting antenna at the campground is
located in that direction. a transmitter off to the side or behind us
pretty much guarantees no signal. i'm still using the laptop's
built-in wi-fi card but am strongly considering getting a pcmcia card.
