Author EVDO aircard in Europe?

I just bought a Kyrocera KPC650 aircard with Verizon service for my
laptop. I am liking it so well that I am going to drop my DSL service.
Unfortunately, I am reading that this won't work in Europe! I will be
traveling a lot to Europe for business, mostly Italy and the UK. Is
there no way that this aircard will work over there?

No - Europe is primarily GSM
EVDO is CDMA

No you'll need a T-Mobile or Vodaphone unit. Keep in mind in Italy T-Mobile
has no "native" coverage. So I'd highly recommend Vodaphone as they are the
largest carrier (much like VZW here) as a matter of fact they are basically
the parent company of VZW. When you go there you'll see the same ads (much
like our America Choice) and the same dorky little guy. It's too bad VZW
didn't bite the bullet and give us GSM so there would be more universal
coverage.

No, it's not. CDMA works better, at least here. And even if they had, an
American card still wouldn't work in Europe because they use different
frequencies.

It won't work as stated by the others. I bought a T-Mobile card just
for that purpose, however it turnrd out to be slower than dialup. Not
sure about Vodapohone.

@Kenster

You could buy a 3G PAYG handset from Vodafone UK and use that to
connect your laptop to the internet whilst in the UK and Italy. You
would also be able to use Vodafone's 'Passport'
(http://tinyurl.com/8q8ur) scheme to save on calls whilst in non-UK
countries that have a Vodafone network. The problem with this is that
data charges tend to be rather high, especially when one is not in the
UK. This may not matter too much if you are just looking to do so some
light e-mailing.

As far as I know Vodafone won't rent you a handset or data card
unless you are already with them so you would likely have to buy
something from them. You could, however, rent a handset from Verizon,
which would work in Europe. This would really only be useful to you if
the handset they gave you allowed was able to be used as a modem for
your laptop. I am not sure if Verizon rent out data cards though.

Another option would be to use Wi-Fi, which is generally quite common
in major European towns and cities.

I checked on renting a handset from VZW and the cost was outrageous. It just
would be really good if all carriers were the same. I also like how GSM
handsets work everything from the SIM. Want to change handsets get a new one
and transfer the SIM. It's simple no paying the VZW guy $10 or $20 to
transfer your stuff, or having to buy software etc. When I went I got a
Cingular RAZR here and put a T-Mobile Debitel card in it. Worked just fine.
AAMOF it worked here too.
End of rant

Yes it's jolly nice being able to chop and change handsets, once can
have a daytime handset and perhaps use a smaller handset in the
evenings if one is going out.

My VZ Access Manager, upon log in, shows Verizon in partnership with
Vodaphone. Does that mean that this WILL work in Europe if I somehow
hook up with Vodaphone?
