I just made a test call and they said all they could tell me is what tower
was on. I have a GPS phone and Page Plus, which sells Verizon minutes.

Have you tested your E911? They won't get mad at you if you say right off
that it is a test.

Not real bright.

Can you imagine if everyone decided to test their phones?

One can only hope that it's *your* house that's burning,
while you're playing 911 games.

Look, dickwad, I'm glad I tested it BECAUSE IT DOESN'T WORK. Better to FIND
OUT NOW.

I also have used various VOIP services for the home and always test the
E911. The 911 people are ALWAYS cool with it, IF YOU TELL THEM IT'S A TEST.

As someone who works in emergency services, I've yet to meet someone who's
"cool" with 911 testing.

Dial 911, say you are testing your cell phone's E911 service with GPS. Odds
are you will find a nice, helpful person different from yourself.

I dare you.

Since you feel the need to immediately resort to name calling, it hurts your
credibly on anything you say. I do know that if you try calling 911 here,
you are getting a visit from the police to make sure the nothing untoward is
going on. Probably get you cited to.
The reason your local 911 could not place you except to know what your tower
you are on, is that E911 has not yet been installed in your area yet. That
is unfortunate.

WOW, REALLY idiotic posts here! I guess you should all wait till someone in
your family is in danger before finding out if E911 works or not. You could
put that on their tombstone:

Her lies my son/daughter/wife/etc, if only I had known that E911 didn't
work.

Which of course gives you a reason do resort to your juvenile name calling
[color=darkred]
At least in NJ, all 911 calls must be investigated
[color=darkred]
Filing a false report. Felony charge by the way. You might get it knocked
down to misdemeanor if you talk to the prosecuter real nice.
[color=darkred]
52:17C-16. Penalties
Any person who violates the provisions of this act shall be subject to
a penalty of $200.00 for the first offense and $500.00 for each subsequent
offense. If the violation of this act is of a continuing nature, each day
during which it continues shall constitute a separate offense for the
purpose of this section. The penalty shall be collected and enforced by
summary proceedings under "the penalty enforcement law," N.J.S. 2A:58-1 et
seq.
Trust me, it happens.
[color=darkred]
Why don't you call your local police dept. on the non- emergency number and
politely ask if they have upgraded to E-911 or when they are scheduled to.
[color=darkred]
See above.
E-911 is available for all cell sites as far as I know. If your local
emergency services don't have the ability to use it, then the holdup is your
local govrnment. Not Verizon.

BTW IF you are traveling, are you going to test 911 for every town you pass

Godzilla Pimp, you heartless idiot. Don't you know that there are thousands
of black, Hispanic and white-trash women who are being beaten up by their
boyfriends at this very instant? They need 911 service far more than you
need to test it for your over-privileged, white-XXX children no matter how
many taxes and fees you pay.

No, rather, you should ALWAYS assume that E911 does NOT work (because in
the majority of the us it actually does not), and be prepared to tell
the dispatcher exactly where you are, and provide as much detailed
information as you can. JUST like you would have done prior to E911,
and what people have been doing in the decades prior to its existence.

If you are unwilling to do this, then your best bet is to stick to being
near a traditional landline phone at all times. Though I must warn you
there have been a number of well-documented cases where even THAT
doesn't work, and the 911 dispatcher will have an out-of-date location
record for a phone number and be feeding incorrect location data to the
first responders.

Relying on new and as-yet-untested technology to save you is foolish.
And even if you "test call" your local 911 dispatcher to see if they can
find you, it is NOT a reliable test. A successful test call in one
location does NOT mean that they will still be able to find you when
you've moved your cell phone to a different location, possibly in a
different town served by a different dispatch center that might not have
the same capabilites. And even then, there could be local temporary
conditions that prevent your phone from getting a good GPS fix when you
need it most, preventing a successful acquisition.

More like "here lies my son/daughter, dead due to my negligence and
infantile reliance on finicky technology to always get us out of a jam."

Correct. By the way, in NJ (as you cited NJ in your posted), the
MAJORITY of PSAPs in that state have NOT reported themselves as e-911
capable yet, although all of the Big Four cellular networks in NJ are
ready to go. The deadline for their compliance WAS December 31, 2005.
No idea if they made the deadline; knowing how the great state of NJ
works in the areas of government and politics, probably not.

NJ politics is really simple:
Who got paid what by whom for what and when.
"The Soprano's " is a documentary
I do not think that that all PSAPs have used their e911 money for e911
upgrades, plus in north Jersey, the towns are so close together the odds of
you getting the correct dispatch center is slim.
You can not put all your faith in e911 to find you, you better to be ready
to talk to a dispatcher. Plus, and no one seems to mention this, If you are
in a high-rise building, no one will know what floor you are on unless you
tell them.

Actually no it doesn't, 911 from home has the wrong address, and the cell
phone goes to an entirely different county. But I have a two-way radio to

Just because a guy (mobster) from Toms River was beaten to death with a

Now, if you want to review some of the people I grew up with in Northern
