look at what these guys are coming out with!

I'm afraid to ask the price....(c;
That's a FULL BLOWN Windoze XP pocket computer with 30GB HD and 1/2G of
RAM...not some Palm or Windoze Mobile toy computer with queer, low res
software that won't run anything really useful with no storage for its ROM
OS. This is a computer that'll run it all! Why not just carry the office
computer in your pocket?...(c; Wireless and Bluetooth. Free phone on
Skype in 802.11 Country...video and all! Sync? What sync??
Plug in a USB hub to its USB port and the sky's the limit! Hell, that's as
much computer as half the towers on the shelf....
Amazing....Now we'll need a printer for the car....with a scanner....
It just keeps getting better and better.

It'd be nice to see them incorporate a pc card slot.

| But, this doesn't replace a cell. It's not a phone. (I'd hate to have to
rely on Skype for anything important... let alone a 911 emergency.)

Skype and a bagphone?....(c;
I'd hate to depend on a 200mw toyphone in a 911 emergency, myself. That's
why there's a honkin' 3W Motorola TX200 bagphone (99 cents in thrift shops
in nice condition) in each of my vehicles...
OnStar is on AMPS for a reason....

What's on-star going to do when they shut down AMPS ?
There goes on-star. (Wave bye) GM Will not cover the cost.

They were told to convert years ago and started to do so.
There are cars that were originally designed for leaded
gas that don't work so well either.

Newer GM vehicles with On-Star have either a digital-ready On-Star
transceiver, or a dual-mode (AMPS/CDMA) transceiver.
After January 1, 2008, GM will no longer provide On-Star service to
vehicles with AMPS-only transceivers, though presumably AMPS will still
work on the dual-mode transceivers.
If the vehicle has a digital-ready On-Star transceiver then it can be
upgraded to dual mode. If the vehicle has an AMPS-only transceiver then
no-upgrade is available. By January 2008, I don't think it's going to
mean many lost On-Star customers, since the older vehicles will likely
not be owned by people that are going to be buying On-Star service at
$16.95 to $34.95 per month.
I don't know what else they could have done. At least they chose CDMA,
which has much more U.S. coverage than GSM.
Remember, AMPS doesn't go away in 2008. The carriers are _permitted_ to
turn it off, and in urban areas they will certainly shut it down.
Smaller carriers, in rural areas, are not going to shut down AMPS
because it's still the only network for vast areas of the country.

Probably won't matter, anyways. GM is on the verge of collapse, losing
$US10.8M last year, offering bonus incentives for 160,000 employees to
leave the company (buyout $140K/each). Scan around the financial websites
on GM and watch another huge corporation collapse under it own
stupidity....

I expect that they will declare bankruptcy soon, to get out of their
pension obligations.

Because the screen is just too small.
I've been through every palmtop, PDA, cellPDA, etc., since the Vilo.
I've come to the conclusion that there's a lower limit to screen size,
where something is fully useful, in a practical sense, as a computer.
It doesn't matter how powerful or feature-rich these hand held units
are; if you can't see what you're doing, they're of limited use.

I'd agree 100%, but note that the device in question supports an external
monitor up to 1200x1024.

Precisely why a cellphone computer is a useless toy....
The new computer supports an awfully detailed external monitor, keyboard
and mouseport. My 21" Gateway widescreen plugs right in PnP...(c;
5" screen that's the whole device's one side and MADE to be seen in the
sunshine is a useful device. However, it's not as useful as a full-sized
laptop. I'd much rather have one of the laptops where you can rotate the
display around to see it when it's closed for watching movies and streaming
video. I have a friend who uses one in a service truck with an infrared
full-sized keyboard. The whole computer sits in a mobile DVD player rack
and he just puts the wireless keyboard on his lap with its integrated
touchpad mouse. That works great as there are no wires and the computer
runs off the truck battery, not its perpetually-dead internal battery like
his old laptop. He never shuts it off all day.

For phones with computers in them Palm has the best by far
implementation of

more
vehicle accidents attributed to cell phone usage while driving with no

excel and word docs are much better than MS's pda
counterparts.
Back to Larry's comments... Larry wouldn't know a pda

bigger thrill Larry spends the rest of his time doing stupid

Au Contraire, Quicky. I've become somewhat of a Treo 650 guru I don't
really want to be, after consulting with the seemingly ONLY Treo expert
Verizon has in Dallas. Giving up on trying to sync all the various
functions, we ended up in the local Verizon company store to the usual
blank stares. Someone panic'd and gave me the secret number so I could
has "Him" all these questions. I used their phone and in no time found
out that if you sync over Verizon, you can't sync that function over the
cable, which isn't covered anywhere I could find, which was really
screwing us up. Several long keystroke procedures on the office
computer's Palm Desktop, re-installing it all on the phone after a hard
reset to upgrade the mistakes in programming in the first place, then
configuring Verizon through the personal webpage interface, the phone
directly and the Palm Desktop so that certain functions program when you
push the button on the sync cable, email syncs over the air so he can
leave the office and still get emails, and other choices we made who
syncs what and he's one happy camper. It never really worked before with
the tech support from VZW trying to hide their ignorance of it.
Now, if he'd only kept his mouth shut to all his Treo-equipped friends
and business associates...(c; I've rebuilt 8 to date, some with some
really cool software. I kept one an extra day because it was so much fun
to have the NYSE and NASDAQ at my fingertips with realtime software
running as you walk, keeping you alert that Xquat Systems just had a
major transaction and their stock tanked 8% in the last 30 seconds. That
one belonged to a banker, who is a day trader. Really cool Treo, that
one...(c;
Which Palm do you have, Quicky?
