Sprint Announces 2 Extra Hours of Calling at Night: Will Verizon?
|
|
|
| On the back page of Sunday's (April 14, 2006 issue) USA Weekend
magazine included in my local (upstate NY) paper, Sprint has a full
page announcement stating that "Now nights start at 7PM".
Wonder if Verizon will "lower" their high standards to meet
competition to start their nights at 7PM (again!)?

Only if they start to lose enough accounts.

Only if Cingular does the same. Verizon isn't really competing with #3,
they are competing with #1. And if the Once and Future ATT Wireless
isn't going to roll out 9PM, then chances are, Verizon will not either,
unless they start to see their churn numbers go up over it.

I've been with Verizon since 2000 and they never seem to have the
"bargains" that other companies offer, but having travelled all over the
US and Canada, they have one thing the others don't: service. JMHO

I think that is why they hedge on the "bargains". They know that where
coverage is the most important factor customers will put up with few
"bargains".

One would think that would be enough.But,for some,it never is.
In my travels no provider has been able to come close to Verizon let alone
better them when it come's to hearing/receiving calls.
Do I like Verizon?Yep. Would I change if another provider gave better
service?In a heart beat.But I don't see that happening anytime soon.

But many of us do not travel a lot, and can be satisfied with other carriers
with less coverage.

Surprisingly, that's what their advertising campaign says. It's about
the network.

What about after there is no more AMPS. Would Sprint be just as good as
Verizon then as both would then be all digital CDMA? Just curious.

If you don't need good coverage, go cheap? Heck, if I didn't wander more
than a few miles from the area where I live, I'd seriously consider
T-Mobile. They advertise the most hours for the least money.

But that may not even work. Tmobile has really poor coverage in my area.
My buddy used to sell them in a quickie mart he owns and gave up because
almost every phone came back.

No, because Sprints network is nowhere near as extensive as Verizons.

Only the future will answer that interesting question.
However I will say this....personal experience shows Verizon beats Sprint
today talking just digital,especially once you get off the interstate or
away from urban areas, so as long as Verizon keeps this pace up I don't see
that changing.
I think as long as there are at least three or four "big'ies" they,along
with the smaller providers,will compete enough to help keep prices bareable
& service decent.

On the other hand, I would guess Verizon is suffering at least a
little about now. They did lose 7500 dealers (Radio Shack).
One would wonder how much that would hurt them. I would guess it would
be significant. Heck, it cannot avoid being significant. 7500
dealers? Sheesh.

Verizon has such a strong presence the loss of the RS locations will be
absorbed without much of a burp.

Wanna have some fun at the VZW counter?.....(c;
CC's all have wifi to sell their computers running, wide open. This
hotspot, of course, is very close to the VZW kiosk where the demo PC
hooked to VZW's amazingly fast data service is located.
Bring your laptop and ask the nice salesbot if you can compare your
internet speed to theirs as you heard it was really fast internet service
for only $80/month, which should be $30 faster than a cable modem, right?
Click up a spam soaked cnn.com on both and watch their faces.
It's so bad in our CC store, the VZW salesbots have configured their demo
PC so it only goes to a couple of websites, stored in the PC's cache of
course, so you can't see how really slow it really is....
Another trick is to clear the cache when noone is looking so it all has
to reload when you click up one of the allowed websites...(c;
Gotta love 'em.....
I tricked Alltel's salesbot in their new store the other day. The
salesbot had her own UT Starcom toy phone/computer. I booted the wifi
networking in the store's demo unit and hacked it into Quizno's hotspot,
conveniently located next to Alltel's new store. I called her over and
asked her if her phone was always this fast, clicking up CNN and some
other complex sites at wifi speeds. Her face? PRICELESS...(c;
Before I left, I showed her what I did to hook the demo toyphonecomputer
to Quizno's internet wifi. She didn't even know the little UT would
connect to wifi....(c;

They are only boring if you hang out in them all day
trying to impress people... You should go to the
park and hang out with the respectable retired
