Is there a reason Verizon only has VZ Nav available for the V325 and V?
Are there technical reasons for it, or simply marketing?

Any technical reason VZ Nav couldn't potentially be used on any other
GIN E911 capable phone?

Thanks.

It/s available on another one of their phones.I'm pretty sure it's an LG
model.

I've no doubt as time goes on, & if the service seem's to catch on, Verizon
will expand it.I have a V325 & VZ Nav is one of those rare pgm's that
really do perform as advertised.

The aGPS (a=assisted) that Verizon Wireless uses comes in two flavors:

1) Network assisted, meaning that the network sends info about available
GPS satellites to the phone, the phone gets some readings from the
satellites, and sends this info back to the network. The network then
computes the location of the phone and sends it on to the e911 center.

2) Mobile assisted. The phone requests the info from the network, but
can then do multiple satellite readings AND computations of its own
location without any assistance from the network. This is what VZ-Nav
uses. To satisfy the government requirement for locating 911 callers,
the phone only needs to support (1). To support apps like VZ-Nav, it
needs to also support (2).

What we don't know is whether requirement (2) rules out any current phones.
