I'm considering an upgrade to Verizon's vx6700 and would like to know
if it can be used as a modem for my notebook or is there a way to
"share" it's internet access either with wi-fi, bluetooth or USB. I
know it would be slow, but this would be on a rare occassion and would
be a great help in some instances.

I used Sprint's version of the 6700 as a USB modem and it worked very well.
Quicker than I would have thought and all the software for the modem came
with it, too. I dropped Sprint and now I have the Verizon xv6600. Have
occasionally used it as a modem and it works fine, but I had to find thr
software independently. Hopefully, vz has better support for the 6700.

Do you remember where you found the software? I've found their tech
support very good with everyday things, but anything out of the
ordinary (like this) seems to leave them scratching their heads. I
guess it depends on which tech you reach - so I'm not expecting to get
a lot of help from them (I've already gotten 2 different answers from 2
different people, but can't try anything until I get the phone.)

I use a Verizon XV6600. I downloaded wModem from
http://www.myehud.com/xv6600/

I have read that wModem is even included on the XV6700 CD.

It allows me to use the 6600 as a modem, either with the USB cable or
Bluetooth. In Broadband areas, the Bluetooth connection seems to limit
the speed to 200-300 kbps, but the USB connection is usually around
600-800 kbps. In National Access areas, wither connection is faster than
the 144 kbps max.

The comments I have about using wModem:

1. After using it, I have to do a soft reset before Bluetooth Dial Up
Networking will work again.

2. Contrary to the instructions, I need to start it on the 6600 *before*
plugging the USB cable in to the laptop, otherwise the laptop never sees
the modem.

3. Contrary to the instructions, there is no need to turn off ActiveSync
on the laptop before running wModem.

4. Very often, I found that the USB connection has been disabled on the
6600 after running wModem. On the 6600, I need to go ActiveSync, then
Tools, Options, then Options again, and check the box "Enable PC using
this connection".

That is the final selling point for me too; I've got Alltel and have gotten
great service but they don't have broadband in my area. If possible, I'll
keep Alltel for voice and add Verizon for broadband on the PDA and also use
it as my laptop modem. I couldn't get an answer out of Verizon either.
