Author Suggestions for replacement phone

Ideas and suggestions please. My mothers Nokia 3285 phone died last
night. Took it in to be serviced and it is DOA. I need a replacement
phone for her that is about as large as this one is. It seems that all
of the replacement phones have all of the features. I would like to
have a phone for her that has a pull out antenna as they live in a
fringe signal area. She needs something simple that is a cell phone
only. There are a couple in the store but it seems that they are loaded
with features she will never use and they have the built in antenna.
Any one have any suggestions? I suggested to the clerk that i would
just by one from e-bay and he told me that this phone will not be
supported on there network as it is not gps compatible. So much for
that idea.
TIA

That's why he's a clerk at a Verizon store.

If you buy the right model off eBay, and it's a legit deal
(Verizon-branded,not stolen nor broken) you should have no trouble
activating it with them.

I've been told they might have started charging a nominal fee to change-over
phones, $10 IIRC, if you bring your own, but in your case, that shouldn't
stop you.

If she likes the Nokia user interface, (I think Nokias are generally pretty
user-friendly), try to find her a Nokia 6015i. Great little phone, no
camera, logical layout, good reports of signal and battery life. I didn't
look, but I would guess you can pick up a mint one for $50 or so on eBay
with accessories.

Good Luck!

OOPS. My mistake. It has a camera. Sorry.

But still a nice straightforward phone.

Unfortunately, you're not going to find any phones these days that are
e-911 compatible and are "just cell phones." Every currently model is
going to have at least some data capability. You may have to consider
this your mother's welcoming to the 21st century.

That said, you might want to consider the Motorola V325. It does have
lots of whiz-bang features (again, you aren't going to find any phones
these days without at least one whiz-bang), but it does meet your other
criteria: it's a decent size (even though it's clamshell design), has an
extendable antenna, and does the phone thing that it's supposed to do,
very well. It can also do analog, which I imagine your mother might
need if she's in a fringe area.

If you go to Longs and possibly other places then they are selling the
2128i for $50 as a prepay phone. However you don't have to use it as a
prepay - just change the ESN online.

You're right. I read the post too quickly. Thanks.

In any case, I can't think of much against the 6015i.

Don't have to use the camera or data if you don't need them.

Thanks to all who replied. In answer to the original follow up post,
yes i was going to try to find that model # on e-bay but it is not GPS.
I appreciate all of the followup as my mother is elderly and I want to
keep it simple for her on a replacement phone.
