Author Where are contacts stored on xv6700?

I cracked the screen on mine and was going to copy the contacts file over to
my replacement phone but dont know what files to copy. I cant see the screen
so i cant run a backup or use Remote Display. I have used the explore
function of ActiveSync but cant locate any files that look like them.

You should use one of the following:

- ActiveSync synchronization with Outlook (the easiest, free solution)
- Sprite Backup or Spb Backup, used together with a PPC controller app like
Pocket Controller. Only go this way if yoyu don't have Outlook and don't
want to install it either.

Okay, if the screen is cracked why can't you use the Remote Display power
toy on the PC display when synced?

Problem is my screen is gone so the only access I have is through Explorer.
I dont have outlook on my home machine. If I install it will it sync up and
get my contacts automatically? If I have to do anything involving seeing the
screen I cant do it.

I tried opening it and nothing comes up but white space. I hooked up the new
phone and to get remote display to work I had to press connect on the
handset.

Strange, but it sounds like it might be a problem with the Remote
display/active sync install on the PC. Irregardless, without more detective
work you are not going to be able to run the display.

IF the display problem is associated with th ePC itself I would suspect that
successfully syncing contact information to the local PC contacts( allowing
you to then sync with the new PPC) might not work so well. That is, there
is a question as to the state of the device at the time, despite bing able
to browse the file system.

Since you do have file access an alternative might be to put a link to the
backup program of your choice in the windows\startup folder (preferably one
that allows you to backup without input...), soft reset and then (hopefully)
run the resulting backup on the new device.

Good Luck

if your replacement phone is also the same model, you should be able to
place the broken device in the cradle, use the backup function in activesync
on the desktop. place the new device in the cradle (connect as guest) and
restore the backup.

If they were the same model and not WM5, that is. The xv6700 (and the
flavor of the apache I am more familiar with, the ppc-6700) is WM5.
Consequently, no backup function on Active Sync.

( According to Net-Etiquette I really should have not posted this since KDE
was talking to the OP. See, I do at least know better... ;) )

You can. It's the best solution in this case.

Please note that ActiveSync backup is not available for WM5 devices, only
for pre-WM5 ones. The xv6700 is WM5.

Unfortunately, auto-starting the backup app won't work. Both Sprite and Spb
Backup requires user navigation for the backup to begin and there're no
"backup everything w/o any uservention AND pre-configuration" tools in them.

I would use active sync. Your 6700 came with Outlook on the CD (at least
mine did), use that with active sync to get your contacts and other outlook
stuff onto your PC. Make sure you have active sync sync files too as well,
and it will place a my documents folder for your mobile on your desktop.
This will sync all your my documents stuff from main memory.

I had a bad one the first time, so I took it back and replaced it, deleted
all mobiles on active sync (after syncing my old one for the last time).
Cradled the new one, set up the connection between the new 6700 and the
comp, and then hit sync, and all my contacts were put right back. If you
can't find your CD with the Outlook on it, go and get a cracked version
somewhere for temporary use until you get your new one squared away, and
then just uninstall it. Or go buy Office Student and Teacher edition for
130 bucks. As for your programs, your just going to have to re-install
those. Whatever you put into the main memory's my documents folder will be
synced if you have it set up right. Nothing on the storage card will be
synced, but your going to keep your storage card anyways right?
