Recommendation: Razor vs. E815 vs. LG VX-8100 vs. Samsung A950?
|

| Hi ... any thoughts on these phones especially actual experiences would
be very helpful. I've heard on this NG for example, that several people
have had problems with the keys on the E815 ... I also seem to remember
hearing that someone reported a "tinny" sound quality on either the
Razor or the E815.
It would appear that the Razor has an obvious weight/footprint
advantage, but has a significant Talktime disadvantage (180 vs. 260 for
the E815 and 235 for the A950). All have Bluetooth. Differences in # of
memory locations, but for me ... difference between 500 and 1000 not
important. Razor is only phone that doesn't have removable memory. All
have speakerphones.
Signal strength (from what I remember) better with the LGs?
Thanks for any help!

| It's what works for you. I had the 815 and hated it. It had a echo in the
ear. Both Motorola and verizon said there was no problem.
Motorola said there was no fix on the 2nd call. The flip closes with just a
slight amount of downward motion. Signal was great. I went to the LG 8100
and all the problems were fixed.
The LG had a firmware upgrade that verizon said would fix a few problems I
had with the 8100
After the firmware upgrade the MP3 playing was taken away. I liked that the
phone played MP3 in my office with earphones. nothing extra to carry.
i.e.:Ipod. I took that back when verizon took the MP3 player away and got
the Razr. Out of all 3 the Razr is the best for me. It does not play MP3
files, but I like the thin and less bulky feel and the no more echo was the
kicker. I can't tell how the signal compares to the 815 as In my area there
are so many towers that signal is not a problem.

If you turn all your statements around 180 degrees and look in the
Howard Forums your research might be fruitful. You will find more info
there than here.
http://www.howardforums.com/
The 815 is the best Verizon phone by far for signal reception.
Motorola and Nokia absolutely have the best Verizon signal reception.
LG does not.
The echo problem is no more with the 815.
Remember, for every problem you read in the forums there are millions
of people who don't have them.
And yes I have an 815 but have also had LGs

The echo problem with the 815 was fixed with a software upgrade,
(as the poster above says) as was the weak vibrate. I've never
understood the hinge problem at all. The 815 is by far the best
phone that I've ever owned and my wife had the the Samsung
950 - took it back cause it would hold the signal in places
the 815 would. She got a 325 and loves it.

We went back and spent about half an hour comparing our VX-4400's with
VX-8100's and Moto 815. Made calls from one to the other, trying to
determine signal quality. Still came away with the impression that
the e815 was less intelligible. The sound seems muffled, and there
seemed to be more breakup in those moments when both parties start to
speak at the same time.
The VX-8100 sounds much like our VX-4400. What others may refer to as
'tinny', I would call 'clear'. Not perfect, but I could understand
the person speaking much more. In fact, I like the 4400 better than
the 8100 in some ways.

What!? So the 8100 could play MP3s at one time but they disabled it?
That is flat out retarded.
I had also heard differing reports on whether the 8100 could be used
as a modem for connecting a laptop remotely. Some said yes.
Phonescoop said no in their main feature comparison. Feedback here
said that the comparison was a mistake, and that it could do this.
The Verizon salesman said No, that it was disabled.
The 4400 *did* have that capability. That's another odd thing to
disable. Supposedly the new VX-8300 will add that back.

Larry, again, I'd say more 'muffled' than 'tinny'. Can you try them
at your Verizon store? The e815 gets great reviews for reception, but
we had problems with Moto V60s, and the e815 seemed to be doing the
same thing. Originally opted for the VX-4400 which solved the
problems.

I haven't checked on this lately, but one earlier Samsung apparently
got more address entries but cutting the length of each entry in half.
That's a disadvantage, even if you have 500 more entries.
Supposedly, the e815 has about an hour more battery life than the
8100, but getting the extended battery for the LG boosts it to more
than the e815.

For us (in NYC), the LGs have been better, though many here report the
opposite. No one knows why.

| I had the echo with the 815. It went away with the 8100. The Razr has no
echo. If you did not have the echo then great. But it was there. Motorola
has fixed it in a firmware update. But they at one point in time said it was
not present. But the funny thing is the guy at tech support said he had
heard it as well .
