New v710 Bluetooth Not Working?

| I've been through the wringer getting replacements for my Motorola
v710. This is now the third handset I've had. My first one had
problems with the antenna connection coming loose, so I replaced it,
then again when the charging port on the new phone died.
This one seems to work fine, except that Bluetooth is not connecting
either with my iPaq 2215 PDA, or with the Motorola remote speaker.
Both of these have worked before.
I tried both searching for Bluetooth headsets (on the 710's Bluetooth
menu) and making the phone discoverable. The search does not bring up
the speaker, even when it's right next to the phone, and the
discoverable part doesn't make it discoverable to the PDA.
The radio is marked "On" both times.
Am I doing something wrong here? The little Bluetooth icon flashes on
the phone, so it seems to be trying, at least...just not
communicating. It's been an age since I first paired the old phone
and the PDA/speaker, so maybe there's something missing in there.

Nope.. the older 710's weren't crippled, but the newer ones are (and only
allow headsets)... You had an older one (two) and now have a newer one...

Manufacture an amazing piece of technology and then cripple all of the good
features so you can profit. This is how many v710 users describe their new
Bluetooth-enabled phone from Verizon. The v710 appeared to be a truly
amazing product from the manufacturer's initial feature list - Bluetooth
support, Megapixel Camera, POP3 email, and Instant Messenger. That is,
before Verizon decided to disable several of its features for what many
believe (and what Verizon doesn't deny) was an effort to drive up revenue.

I'm pretty sure that's not it.
For one, one of my replacement phones was definitely a newer version,
and had no problem connecting to either the speaker or the PDA.
For another, I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Dial-Up Networking is
still supposed to work on even the newest v710 firmware, and I have no
idea why the speaker would not work...as that's an accepted use!
The phone version is 8700_02.03.00R.

You have to place the speaker/headset into 'discovery' mode, however
that is done, then do the search mode on the v710. The moto headsets
are put into discovery mode by holding the power switch down for 5
seconds until the blue light is solid. The phone finds the headset, you
enter the pin and are home free. The speaker should have a similar
discovery mode.
I had a Jan 2005 issue of v710 that I was never able to pair with an
Axim X50v. Well, that's not true; it would pair but was not functional.
Dunno about the later firmwares, but if it can be done either
www.howardforums.com, www.cellphonehacks.com, or www.aximsite.com should
have the instructions.

It's not that VZW is silent about disabling these features to promote
pay services; they have explicitly stated that features such as file
transfer (ringtones, pictures, music, videos) were disabled to honor
their contract with their BREW application developers, which requires
such free functionality that would compete with the BREW (GetItNow)
applications be disabled on GetItNow-capable phones. This is why
Bluetooth file transfer actually works on some non-GetItNow-capable
phones (PDAs and such).

Wasn't meant to be an indictment of verizons practice.. Merely a reply as to
the OP's getting a replacement phone and all of a sudden the features that
worked on his old one, don't work anymore... That site also give links and
ways to get around the new way of doing things...

Axim X51v for BT DUN and none work.

Well, for what it's worth, I got it working.
It turns out I had to go into the iPaq's Bluetooth Manager and re-pair
the phone with the iPaq. For whatever reason (I don't recall why),
the older phone was named "Motorola Phone1", so it didn't even attempt
to connect to that!
Once I did that, it worked fine. My problem is solved.
Start > Settings > Bluetooth > Bluetooth Manager (link at the bottom)

Unfortunately, once in a while you get some got that gets an old one
claiming they work just like the old ones.. Unfortunately, that is
absolutely not true of any of the ones currently available...
There is still one way that it will work for sure, but first do you have a
data cable? If so, you can download/install one of the pre-configured
seems... Much easier than putzing with seem editing...

There are seem edits for BT DUN for the 710?
I've done the other seem edits enabling MPT, etc.

There are none, because despite the rumor that has been going around,
even the latest 710 firmware supports BT DUN.
See my earlier message...I got it working. I have the latest firmware
on my current 710.
Now, the e815 is a different matter.

I think the problem is with my Axim X51v. Although others seem to have
gotten the same combination working (Axim X51v & V710) using the hacks
from the Axim Site I have not. Using the original Axim BT the phone
appears to pair and Motorola Phone shows up on the Axim no services are
shown.
What is your firmware version?

FWIW, I've always had a problem getting my V710 to connect to the various
devices (headsets, PDA, Laptops) that I've used with it the first few times.
After a few connects that it worked pretty well. The damn thing seems to
want to make sure I REALLY want to connect.
