Author Send an email when new voicemail?

Is there a way to send me an email when I have a new voicemail? I know
this sounds strange, but when I visit a foreign country I hate having
to periodally check my voice messages. If I could get an instant email
it would be better since I am on the internet all the time.

Depends on who your phone service is with-- some can, some can't.

I am with Verizon, on their family shared plan. Perhaps I need to get
the GSM global phone plan? I notice their rates are very high. But I
wonder if they charge if I dont answer the phone, but instead check
voice messages from a landline in the foreign country at 3 cents/minute?

I don't know any way to do that with VZW but with Vonage, you can get an
email notification of voicemails-- and even have the actual VM attached to
the email.

This is a bit convoluted but if you have Vonage, maybe you could forward
your VZW calls to your Vonage number? Probably easier to just call back to
the US once or twice a day.

Be careful before using Vonage for your home phone. Some people have
apparently had very good luck with them. I didn't and cancelled immediately.

It took a couple of very long hold times and three unnecessarily long
conversations with very polite out-sourced (read "difficult for me to
understand their English") reps who finally understood that I wasn't
staying, no matter how many free months they offered me.

I'm happy for the people who are enjoying their Vonage service. More power
to you! I'll wait this VOIP thing out until it shakes itself out a little
more.

Here's 2 services you might want to consider Maxemail www.maxemail.com
and Evoice www.evoice.com both have 30 day trials.
