I'm hoping to get some straight answers here on a problem I'm finding.
It seems that most every website that offers ringtones for the Motorola
E815 either can't or won't send test messages to a phone on Verizon so
you can download ringtones from sites that Verizon does not get a cut
from. What gives?

Is there a way to create and upload your own ringtones to the E815?
I'm a sound engineer with a radio station and have access to hundreds
of songs and drops that I'd love to place on my phone. But all the
software I've found on e-Bay says the same thing - e815 phones cannot
send from PC-to-phone unless you "hack" the phone first. Doesn't this
void the warranty if you do it?

A friend of mine uses www.vzwpix to upload wallaper and "thinks" you
can upload ringtones too but doesn't know what format to have me
record/mix them in (wav, mp3, etc.) nor if they'd even work via this
method.

Many thanks!

PLEASE go to Howardforums.com.
Or Mark Venture's pages http://www.v710.org/mark/E815.htm

Seam edits are very easy and if you take a bit of care, not
too risky. I seriously doubt you'd ever be turned down for a warranty repair
because of it. There are ways to insure this doesn't happen, if worried...

I went to the Venture page as you stated and found how to use Verizon's
vzwpix website to upload ringtones. But I still can't find what length
they need to be (or can be) and what format? It says the e815 can take
MP3s but is there a certain quality they should be? Most of my files
are 256k or better. Is that too large?

Scratch that last comment, I found it!

325Kbytes or under.

Can anyone here verify this? Sounds pretty "weak" to me. I have a
29-second MP3 right now saved at 256k that's in the 900k range. You'd
think a phone that can play MP3s could handle something better, eh?

I have a Mac, and a transflash card... and I can make my own ringtones
and transfer them to my phone - but it usually involves sending a
message for which I probably pay VZW a quarter a pop.

I've never actually verified if they are charging me... and the process
is a little convoluted.

No hacks necessarry... The longest tone I've sent myself was a little
under a minute, and around 210 KB.
