| Will the Motorola StarTAC ST7868W work on the Verizon system in Connecticut?
I am just looking for basic features and reliability for my son in a compact
phone.

If you don't already have the device on your Verizon contract, it's
unlikely that you'll be able to add it. It's not E911 compatible. It is
allowed to stay on an existing account (for the present) but you can't put
it into service if it's not already in service.

Only if it's active on an account. And even then, you can't ever
deactivate it or swap toa nother account, or VZW will never activate it
again. The phone does not have E-911 capability.

Have you tried the E815? Not quite as small, but a similar form factor,
is reliable and sturdier than it looks.

| the E815 is the one that fell apart - screen cracked, camera lens crushed
and it is an inch thick. We expected better from Motorola. Verizon would
not warrantty it as they called it abuse. We may go back to the samsung
sch-a650. older technology, but it works.

Fell apart!?!?!??! Sounds like it was run over by a steamroller or crushed
in a hydralic car crusher. Sounds like abuse just from your writing!

Why wouldn't falling off a skateboard and smashing the phone not be
considered abuse? Your only option to get a warranty replacement might
be to offer proof that that model phone is prone to spontaneous implosion.

| My son has several friends that have phones that do not fall apart from
taking a simple spill. This phone is made of soft material compared to his
friends phones.

I'd wager those are probably Nextel i530s that your son's friends have.
Those are basically industrial-strength units, designed specifically
for applications like construction and job sites, and heavy outdoor use.
The e815, which your son has, is not rated for that kind of use. Few
cell phones really are, and the ones that are tend to be offered by Nextel.
And for what it's worth, Motorola also manufactures the Nextel i530.
