want to get new phone - new every two with Verizon Wireless
|
|
| usenet 2006-07-21, 10:33 am |
| Greetings!
Wanted to get a camera flip phone with bluetooth two years ago, but
Verizon had many problems with the V710, so I had to get something.
Figured I would get the LG VX3200 - bad choice - was dropping calls like
crazy, and then when I had to get a VX3300 refurb, I couldn't transfer
my phone book. Had to enter it manually.
Then I went through three refurbs in 4 months - one just died and took
all the new numbers with it. Bad speaker and earphone jack problems. I
am fed up with LG phones.
Want to go back to Motorola, but not sure which one to get. Is there a
better model of the RAZR with more durable cover and keys - black vs.
silver?
Are all the new Verizon phones coming with a UI that won't allow you to
change type fonts? I can at least change the type fonts on the old
VX3200/3300.
Both those phones are tri-mode, but with one bar they don't work. THey
have a stub antenna - but the RAZR has an internal one. Does anyone
have relevant experience with new Verizon phones in the Raleigh, NC area?

I have the v810. It's much more solid than the Razor, has bluetooth,
camera, and a slot for up to a 1gig sd card so you can use it as a
stereo. :)
Didn't look at changing fonts so I don't know.
It works all the way from NC to NY with no drops except in WV. :)

Is there a reason you're knotted to Verizon?
I'm on Alltel and it works great all over Raleigh and central/eastern NC.
700 minutes of regional coverage is $39 which covers all of NC/SC and
eastern VA from Emporia to all of Norfolk/Portsmouth/Newport News with free
N/W and M2M on Alltel. After you've been a customer a couple of months,
Alltel adds 100 Anytime minutes good nationwide for free! You can also buy
100 minutes of nationwide for $10 for those infrequent out-of-NC/SC/Norfolk
travels.
If you don't fly all over often, you don't HAVE to buy VZW's forced
nationwide coverage that's so expensive.

Alltel's data service is called Axcess:

have a look.
You get used to not being lied to by the CSRs, but it takes some time....

I'm all ears....Tell us more!
Try to be SPECIFIC. I don't consider my 800 minutes, unlimited N/W,
Unlimited M2M for $40 to suck too bad.
The only billing error I have encountered was when my free 100 anytime
minutes was eaten during N/W offpeak hours. I stopped by to see this
little blonde at the local Alltel office in N Charleston, SC. Sitting in
the nice padded swivel chair, I watched her page through my account to see
why. Unable to tell, she called for help from some billing expert. He
took her to 3 screens where a few keystrokes later an entry error had been
corrected, some code was wrong, and now it stops eating my 100 minutes
during late night, early-in-the-month chats. Anytime minutes only eats for
the first 100 minutes of PRIMETIME usage, now, before it starts eating the
other 700 minutes I get for $39 with all the toys.
What, specifically, was YOUR billing issue? I'm still getting used to not
being lied to every time I walk through the door, myself.

I travel a lot. Alltell drops calls regularly. Problems with a phone?
Feh, you're pretty much on your own.
>Try to be SPECIFIC. I don't consider my 800 minutes, unlimited N/W,

Not bad. I've got 2100 on 4 lines with the same unlimited N/W, free
nationwide long distance, unlimited M2M, unlimited text messaging, a
highspeed broadband access card with unlimited minutes for $180 before
taxes. ($59/month of that is the unlimited broadband access, and
19.00 for two of the four phones)
So yours is $10.00/200 minutes, mine is $10/210 minutes. Comparable.

Among other things, when I changed billing so that the business would
pick up the bill, they readily accepted payments and sent reciepts to
the business address and then continued to bill me. I disputed the
double charges. They did it for months. Each month they said they
had it repaired. Each month I'd receive a new bill. I finally got
someone who said they had it all sorted out. A while later I found
line on my credit report. They reported it as a charge off. Took a
long time to get it removed.
When I finally changed to Verizon because of better coverage, Alltell
kept billing even after the number no longer worked. Fortunately,
they cleared that one up without reporting it to a credit-reporting
agency.
I suppose, as with anything, some people are lucky with each carrier
and some aren't. You find the one that works for you. For me,
alltech sucks big weenies.
With Verizon, I had a billing problem that was likely my own fault.
Changing plans and changing it again to correct an incorrect choice.
They corrected the additional billing in minutes over the phone (611
toll free, no driving to an office in sc. :) )
Before I got the Highspeed data card, I used my phone as a bluetooth
modem. On one occasion, I accidentally left it connected. They
credited the entire 18 hour charge even though I told them what had
happened and told them that four hours of it was actual use.

Thanks. All the carriers suck in many ways, especially from region to
region. Alltel has much better native coverage across SC than Verizon,
especially in Eastern SC where VZW couldn't buy up areas like Myrtle Beach,
a very lucrative roaming market with all those touristas. Hell, until a
couple of years ago, VZW had no service from just south of Charleston to
Savannah, GA. The carrier on A800 was a little mom and pop AMPS system and
they refused to allow VZW customers to roam on them. VZW finally bought
them out and took over their system. Alltel bought up 360 Communications
B800 across Eastern SC and Bell Atlantic's in the midlands and upstate in
the mountains.
As with other carriers, I do find the 611 tsr's a little misinformed, but
at least on Alltel they are capable of more than reading the scripts and
will transfer you through to higher up, rather than outright lie to you.

The E820 is a pretty decent phone. I'd like to get one of the new PDA's with
mobile 5.0, but don't have the need to get my e-mail from anywhere at
anytime, at least not at the price wireless broadband is going for. Still, a
smart phone...

I don't need a PDA - just want a nice color flip phone with a second
screen on the outside so I can see who is calling me, a phone that
doesn't drop calls and lasts more than three months.

Sorry, the marketing strategy is to make the low end so cheap and
uncomfortable that you must buy more phone and services than you need
to have anything that approaches useful.
