Author Text messaging to Canada with "North America" calling plan

I just upgraded my old America's Choice plan after ~2.5 years. As I have
family and friends in Canada, I use my cell phone for calling and
text messaging folks in Canada quite often (multiple times daily).

I've known for a long time that the AC plans no longer include Canada in
their free long distance. However, according to the sales rep at our
friendly local Verizon Wireless store, text messaging to Canada would cost
a whopping $0.25 per message!

Our idea was to text message our friends/family in Canada and have them
call us back on our Vonage "virtual" Toronto phone number. However, since
we (apparently) can't text message them for free anymore, we decided to
sign up for the "North America" plan to re-include Canada into our free
long distance.

Amazingly, the sales rep claimed the text messaging to Canada *still*
wouldn't be included in the 250 msgs/month plan, even with the "North
America" plan.

I got the feeling that maybe the rep didn't know exactly what she was
talking about, or was just manipulating us into a more expensive plan.
Finding answers to questions like this on the VW website is damn near
impossible.

Can anyone shed some light on the truth here?

Thanks,
Adam M

Just a quick follow-up. I was able to find the following on VW's website:

http://mobileoptions.vzw.com/intern...ies/Canada.html

Quoting the website:
"TXT Messages sent to non-U.S. phone numbers of participating carriers are
charged 25¢ per address sent; 10¢ per message received. These TXT messages
do not count against your TXT messaging monthly bundled allowances. Choose
your recipient's country from the menu below."

It seems bizarre that this would still be the case for the North America's
Choice calling plan, but it doesn't clarify one way or the other.

Thanks again,

You could make a domestic USA call to OneSuite, and then call
USA-Canada at 1.9CPM! Works as prepaid phone card. PIN not needed for
calls from home or cell phone. Compare the rates at
https://www.OneSuite.com No monthly fee or minimum.

Use Promotion/SuiteTreat Code:
"FREEoffer23" for FREE time.
Altho from USA payphones there is a connection fee, there is NONE from
other phones or Canadian payphones.

So you Canadian contacts can call you from payphones .

Also works FROM many other countries.

FEEDING YOUR NIGGER

Your Nigger likes fried chicken, corn bread, and
watermelon. You should therefore give it none of
these things because its lazy XXX almost
certainly doesn't deserve it. Instead, feed it
on porridge with salt, and creek water. Your
nigger will supplement its diet with whatever it
finds in the fields, other niggers, etc.
Experienced nigger owners sometimes push
watermelon slices through the bars of the nigger
cage at the end of the day as a treat, but only
if all niggers have worked well and nothing has
been stolen that day. Mike of the Old Ranch
Plantation reports that this last one is a
killer, since all niggers steal something almost
every single day of their lives. He reports he
doesn't have to spend much on free watermelon
for his niggers as a result. You should never
allow your nigger meal breaks while at work,
since if it stops work for more than ten minutes
it will need to be retrained. You would be
surprised how long it takes to teach a nigger to
pick cotton. You really would.
Coffee beans?
Don't ask.
You have no idea.

I send text messages to Canada all the time and have never been
charged - I have a text plan and get 600 messages - they all
come out of that. Just checked my June bill and it was good
up till then.

For calling Canada, get a phone card and you can get down to
around 1.5 cents a minute.
