If you're on the smallest plan with included N&W minutes, Verizon and
T-Mobile are the same price, but you get more peak minutes with T-Mobile
(600 versus 450). However I find that since in my area Verizon is by far
the most popular carrier, that I can't use up my peak minutes because so
much of my calling is on Mobile to Mobile.
I had this whole discussion with my sister-in-law who went off and
signed up with Cingular because at the time she got more peak minutes
for the same money, than on Verizon. But it was a bad decision, because
virtually everyone she called was on Verizon, and she had to use her
peak minutes, rather than MTM minutes. Plus, she's in the SF Bay Area,
where Cingular coverage is not nearly as good as coverage by Verizon.
She finally switched to Verizon last month, and she's very happy with
the improved coverage.
Verizon also has a lot of corporate discounts available. I'm on an older
plan, only 300 peak minutes, but I'm paying $28 per month after a 20%
corporate discount, and my wife is paying $30 a month after an 18%
corporate discount.
