Why? I would rather use my Motorola v60s that I have had for over two
years than any of the current lines of phones.

I now have a Motorola V325, and I wish it was as solid and rugged as
the v60s.

And I still know people who have Motorola StarTAC phones. Why did
Motorola have to change? (or Verizon for that matter).

My son-in-law had a Startac. It was the flimsiest phone I ever saw. He had to
get rid of it because it pretty much fell apart.

I had a StarTAC 7760 on GTE Wireless, pre-VZW (1999). It was also flimsy, and
the first one I had, I had to return because they had a run with bad keypads.

The 7868W Verizon eventually sold was supposed to be much better. But the
flimsiness is completely unacceptable in a phone that was, at the time,
Motorola's top-of-the-line phone. ($500 retail without activation!)

Other than the flimsiness, it was one hell of a phone, but the fit and finish
-- or lack thereof -- turned me off to Motorola for a long time.

Joining T-Mobile last year as a customer, I got a Moto V188 because it was
the cheapest phone available. Big mistake. The 188 doesn't even hold calls a
well as my StarTAC did. It's an utter piece of crap.

My latest Moto is a PEBL, and I got it because it's the only T-Mo phone with
VoiceSignal speaker-independent voice dial like my Sprint phones (and some
Verizon phones) have. VoiceSignal kicks XXX. Doing a lot of driving, I really
like NEVER having to take my hands off the wheel to dial numbers, even
numbers not in my phone book.

So I got the PEBL, against my better judgment, and not only is it an awesome
quad-band GSM phone with a ton of cool features, it stands up to abuse. And
for me, that's a huge benefit, because I am a klutz and tend to drop my phone
a lot more than other people.

The PEBL has the distinction of being the first Motorola wireless phone I've
ever actually wanted to keep.

Whatever floats your boat George. The phones are cheap to the carriers, they
charge high prices to people like me who need to try them out until I find
one that works. 15 days is not long enough to uncover software defects like
the ones found in the majority of LG phones. Ever seen an LG owner say that
his phone is great?, well if so, then he hasn't exploited all of its
features like I do. He most likely uses it to make phone calls at his
convenience, shutting it off everytime his call is completed at that is the
extent of his usage. Mine is on 24/7 and gets used as a business tool plus
phone.
FYI, most LG phone software defects don't show up until 18 - 25 days after
purchase. (how strainge! wasn't it 30 days at one time?)
This is my experience in owning over 10 LG phones in the past 5 or so yrs.
My $400 VX9800 has these defects too! (Which LG denies and they tell me to
read the manual)

After a few you think you would have learned. But buying 10 phones ?
Keep buying them. Duh!

I said own, NOT buy, most were replacements. (only to find out the same
problem existed in the replacements too!) Guess a DUH was in order, I should
have been more specific.

What software defects?

I got a new VX3200 in October 2004, and had it until about October 2005
when it was dropping calls all the time and I got a ridiculous high
bill. Verizon replaced the phone with a refurbed VXZ3300, which had the
same problem within months. Got it replaced in February 2006, with
another refurbed VX3300 that just up and died in April 2006 and took all
my numbers with it. They gave me another refurbed VX3300 which is
starting to act up again. Wanted to get a RAZR, but they went back up
in price before my New Every Two came into effect.

I want to stay away from any more cheap bottom of the barrel phones like
the VX3200/3300, but now you say that the LG VX8300 also has software
problems. What sort of problems are you referring to?

You just heard one ... my LG VX8300 is an awesome phone. No real issues that
I can note. The phone was power cycled once since I bought it about one month
ago and it was only powercycled because I thought it wasn't working, when in
fact, the nearby tower was having an issue.

I think you may be prone to broad generalizations.

My LG TM-510 was wonderful. It was on solid for 2 years. Well,
actually it went off once when I put the extended battery on it.
As far as using features I knew what every value was in the
diagnostic menu. The VX-4400 also was a great phone although
a bit lite and a hair too small for my hands. Both had some of the
very best audio quality both in and out. The broad generalizations
fit right in with being told to read the manual...
