| In a previous thread, "Need advice", I told my story. Now I'm wondering
just what it is I'm promising to do, if I sign a 2yr contract with Vz?
Is it just to keep the account active/paid-up? (that's what I've
already been doing for 8yrs/no contract) Of course I would read the
thing, but reading doesn't always mean total comprehension.
I sent an email to Vz CS on Wed. Received a reply Thurs that said I
would get a definite answer on later than the 21st. This was in regard
to wether/not I can return to my 'grandfathered' plan if I switch to the
Am Choice for 2 wks.
I looked at the ebay deals on the e815, but they all look to be 'buying
a pig in a poke' deals. Even the sellers that are 'power-sellers' only
warrant their phones to 'work' and then after 7days you can't return.
They make a call to see if the thing will connect and also make sure the
esn is clear and that's about it. About $130 plus outrageous shipping
charges.
If Vz sends me an email stating I can not return to my original plan, I
will probably go with the Sprint F&F plan. $10 cheaper than the Vz AC
plan and get a Sanyo 3100 phone for $40 w/2yr 'deal'. If the Vz mail
states I can return, then I'll deal with the phone issue. 815 for $50
w/2yr plan.
Thanks for the help. Reading this group is really helpful and tells me
just how little I know about this. No, not interested in pre-paid
services.

| But of course reading the contract that you agreed to by signing would be
a good start towards figuring out what you agreed to by signing.

Yep, that's about it. You are commiting to maintaining VZW
service for 2 years. The penalty for early termination is $175
(prorated).

Keep checking Ebay. I just checked and there was a new one for under
100.00 with shipping inc. And it has all the extra thrown in. Case,12V

Basically, the way I look at it, it's a contract that you will remain loyal
for 2 years (or face termination fee) and in return VZW will discount your
hardware. Deal or no deal? Just depends on your needs. Of course it also
locks in any promotions that may fall by the wayside at some later date...
but, I don't view that as super useful. Although in some circumstances it
could be.

Several times Verizon has done promotions and made offers that I wanted
to get in on, each time they have given me the extra feature(s) or
whatever in return for agreeing to extend my contract out to two years.
In one case my contract was pretty new and the new two year contract
amounted to only a two or three month extension.

| I strongly urge you *not* to purchase a phone on eBay unless it's brand new,
factory sealed, with the original warrantee. Even then you're probably over
paying (especially when you add in eBay sellers' typically outrageous
shipping and handling costs). When I decided I didn't like my Samsung i730,
I simply sent it back and received a full refund and a new replacement phone
(a different model).

I agree. I will not buy one from some unknown entity on ebay.
Shipping/handling costs from sellers on ebay are all over the map. Same
phone in the box: from Chicago $6 USPS; from NY $19.95 USPS; from
Houston $12.99 USPS. I contacted an ebay guy in Houston about a new
phone. I am 150 miles West of Houston. He offered to lower the fee to
$10 (what a break!) ebay has it's uses, but buying a phone isn't one of
them. Folks buying from ebay REALLY need to find out for themselves
exactly what the shipping costs are. Sellers will screw you on S/H
costs if you don't. (experienced on ebay)
Vzn CS called me last evening. The CS person said I can return to my
original call plan if I go to AC for less than 30 days. I told her I
want that info in reply to my email question. If that email reply shows
up, I'll probably get a new e815 from Vzn and sign. I've been with Vzn
since they bought out my original carrier PrimeCo. Never have had a
contract since '98. The way I look at it, VZ shouldn't require me to
have a contract and should give me a new e815 just for being with the
company since it came into being! (huge odds to overcome on that) lol
Thanks for all the help/advice! I appreciate it!!

I got the email! It even 'says' I can change back/forth anytime. I
want a new e815 and am/was considing buying one from a guy in Jasper,
Tx. He claims to be a Vzn dealer, but when I asked him if the features
that Vzn blocks are un-blocked, he didn't know what I was talking about.
The new phones he has (170) are unopened from the factory and cost $239
w/$50 rebate from Vzn.
Again, thanks for the help!

Yep, he's a VZW dealer! LOL!

No, not prorated. They are set to begin prorating the ETF in September.
