Speed of Internet on CDMA phone

| I have a phone that is 1x CDMA. When I dial #777 I get a 19200bps
connection.
I am seeing on the net a bunch of people saying CDMA goes up to 144Kbps or
something like that. Do I have to set something special up with verizon go
get another number to get the higher speed?

Another number no, however you may not be able to use the higher speed
without doing some verizon setup stuff...
The #777 simply connects your handset to the carrier network.... You can
connect at lower speed by simulating a voice call, or use the higher speed
by changing things in the driver (higher baud rate and if x.25 there, set to
packet switched)....
While that will get you higher speed, you can't actually use it (other than
see if it connects at a higher speed and then get an authorization error)...
Simplest thing, is add the mobile web option for $5 for a month and then
cancel it (or keep it if you like it, I did)... That way they set all the
stuff correctly for your account and eliminates the frustration of getting
stuff working once you get the dial-up part working.....

| 19200 is NOT the speed of the wireless data connection.
Your most likely seeing the serial port's speed
(the connection between the PC and the phone itself)
19200 is one of those speeds, so the above is quite likely happening...
Go to device manager, double click on the modem connection listed.
Under port setting I'll bet anything it's 19200...

| You are correct that the baud is set to 19200. Setting it to anything else
causes errors saying there is a device failure. My actual download speed
appears to be 14.4 kbs accourding to some online reporting tools.

| The 1x speeds yes, however, it has to be packet switched (not direct connect
like the old QNC 14.4/(or some people mistakenly call it 19.2 cuz the screen
says a higher number, even though it really is only 14.4), and then you
change the baud rate in the driver for your phone (don't know what phone, or
how you are gonna connect), but generally it is the next bigger number than
the max for the connection (IE for 1x, bursts up to 144, so baud setting is
usually 230... (like the qnc is 14.4 so you pick the next higher baud
setting of 19.2) ((EVDO is wierd, and not really germane to this case))
Next will be the setup strings
The setup strings force a phone to a certain baud rate rather than the last
connect speed... IE if you use 1x once, the baud rate will always be set
faster (till you power cycle the phone/remove the battery) even if you want
it slower for qnc... Same for using it at qnc speed, it will stay on that
speed until you power cycle the phone... Much easier to use the setup
strings and force it to the correct speed and never have to worry about it..
What are they? That's the rub.. they are different for different model
phones..
If you get that far, then you will be ready for trying it.. There is a
diffeerent logon for 1x (10 digitphone number@vzw3g.com/vzw) than qnc
(qnc/qnc)... If you have all that correct, you will either get on or get an
authorization error.. If the error, simplest thing to do is get the mobile
web option on your account for a month ($5).... (there are ways of doing it
without paying the 5 bucks, but I don't have the time or energy to tell you
all the possible things that can go wrong an how to get around em.... Call
611 and add mobile web for a month....Easy/simple/works/(saves my fingers
from typing a lot)
