That is how I got my e815. I followed the advice from folks in this ng.
Get the ESN of the phone before you pay any money. VZ will check the
number and tell you if they will activate it. Other advice I got was to
buy from a person, not a phone selling business, and make sure the user
manual/charger is included.
What 'dot' on the phone back? My 815 is a solid case back. R U meaning
the camera lense?

In my opinion that colored dot on the battery is a bunch of hooey.
Just a way to make sure verizon isn't replacing a phone more than a
couple of months old. I never had a problem with our phones, but the
indicators did show that they had been wet, which is not the case.
I think the indicators will turn with normal summer humidity in this
area.

Replace it yourself at your online account for free. Best luck on eBay is
buying from private seller with very high feedback ratings (at least 98-99%)
and if he got any negative feedback, his response is mature and measured. I
avoid the used cellular accumulators/resellers.

Short answer: YES!!!
To be safe, get the ESN and call VZW to verify to verify it was not claimed
as lost or stolen & that they can activate if you get it.
I've got my best deals from individuals who took good care of a phone for
two years & then replaced it "new every two". Anything they get for the old
phone is gravy. Be smart. Search closed auctions for the model you want,
decide the value *to you* of the phone you want and bid.
Not all high volume resellers are bad, but some are less truthful/ethical
than others. On any given day there are over 7,000 used VZW phones on sale
on eBay. What you need to complete your contract is there, somewhere.
IMHO, shopping eBay for an emergency spare *up-front* is much cheaper than
insurance and certainly than paying full retail. Do the math. You can buy a
really nice VZW phone on eBay for over $100. You can buy decent functioning
phones for under $50, shipped. A spare in your closet is *much* faster and
cheaper than an insurance claim, paying that $50 deductible and waiting for
some piece of sh*t from Asurion.

Does Asurion replace with a same-model phone if its currently on the
market? If so, I'll maintain the insurance until the vx9800 is no
longer available then cancel it. I've noticed that prices on ebay tend
to drop *fast* once phones drop off the vzw sales site...

| Asurion can replace it with anything they want. Another brand, another
color, etc. You won't know when there out of another phone till they
send you one that may or may not be the one you like.
Case in point. Friend had a moto 7868 a long time ago. 3 battery's, 12v
cord. They sent him something other then what he had. He called them and
they told him It's there right to replace it with something the same
or better then what he had. Being it was better. They had him. It was
newer then his older one so therefore better.
He canceled it right after. Sold it on ebay, and bought another of the
same type to match all his other stuff.

| FYI...
My kid lost a V3c late last year.
Asurion sent a BRAND NEW V3m, all accessories, including a CLA.

I heard about that one from the claims clerk who is my neighbor. She said
your kid was her drug dealer so she treated him right...

Says little for your neighborhood.
You're just jealous that your neighbor has a better hookup than you do!
