So, has anyone taken car chargers apart to compare the differences
between the cheaper and the OEM version?
Merely speculating the more expensive charger is automatically "better"
doesn't necessarily compute. Maybe it just costs more because of the
name brand label or maybe they want more profit. How much value does
that label in itself add to the cost? While there may be tell tale
exterior signs, you can't really compare until you know what's inside.

My personal experience with Motorola chargers has been that the
after-market versions break, either physically or electronically, much
more quickly than the OEM versions. I've had to physically repair the
after-market chargers, with glue, heat-shrink tubing, or bending
contacts, while the Motorola chargers have never required repair. I've
also had the after-market car chargers fail electronically, while the
Motorola chargers have never failed for me. When the charger did work,
it charged just fine.
The extra cost is worth it for me. The extra cost of the Motorola
charger is usually only a few dollars. I.e. for my V325, the Motorola
SYN0847 is $7, while the aftermarket charger is $5.

I'd go with your $7 charger too. However, some on this thread might say
spending $7 isn't enough. Perhaps the extra cost is in a shiny, more
robust shell rather than what's inside. Like any mass-produced product,
cell phone manufacturers make their product to a specific price point,
and the vendors who produce their chargers are well aware of this.
After this, they sell them for whatever the market will bear. Did you
know that a Cadillac is a very nice Chevy?
Throwaway note: I read: The industry estimates 9000 old cell phones are
thrown away every hour, thus China (main producer) is thinking of
producing a generic charger so the landfills don't get filled so fast.

| The problem is "where is the hell" can you purchase a Motorola car charger
or home charger is you really want one? It seems that you can only order
them from Motorola because all retailers carry cheap aftermarket models.

I agree with the comments about spending a little more and getting an OEM
charger. But by that, I mean one which is branded by the manufacturer of
the phone. It is typical in Verizon stores to see accessories bearing the
Verizon brand; although it's likely they do some quality testing before
choosing an item to put their brand on, it may not necessarily be from the
handset's manufacturer. Since they are in the business of making money,
why sell a $15 Motorola charger when you can sell a $7 generic charger
that tests OK, put the Verizon brand on it, and sell it for $15 for a
profit of $8?

You have to order them on-line from web retailers, you don't have to go
to Motorola.
I.e. for the USB Motorola charger, Froogle SYN0847, three stars, under $10.

It's not. My Chinese charger for the Motorola has worked faultlessly for
years charging a V60i. It cost me $4.85 from a Chinese cellphone accessory
company on the internet, direct. They mailed it from China through USPS
with what looked like hand typed address and hand licked Chinese stamps,
which I saved. I bought a whole bunch of stuff for $20. The leather
carrying case for the V60i still looks very nice, hand made and custom
stitched....

| I bought a really cheap car charger for a V60S at my local supermarket
for $1.99.
