| I really hate the V325i ringer tones, all of them are obnoxious and ring
almost continuously. If there any way to get a plain old ring tone that
sounds like an actual (gasp) telephone?

Have you tried buying a ringtone that you like?
I agree - the V325 stock set of ringtones sucks. I liked the ones with
the V60 series and V120 series that I had before the V325.

You could buy Motorola Phone Tools, do the necessary hacking of the
V325i to be able to upload ring tones (Verizon removes functionality of
the handset with MPT, but it can be added back), and then use any audio
you like as a ring tone.
Telephone Ring Tone
-------------------
Go to "freesound.iua.upf.edu"
Use "Looser101" as the user name and "bugmenot" as the password
Search for "687A"
Download the .wav file
Transfer it using Melody Studio, which will convert it to an MP3.
Phone Hacking
-------------
For the phone hacking, see "http://www.v710.org/mark/V710_SeemEdit.htm"
It's the exact same procedure for the V325, with the same 041A SEEM code.
However, you also _must_ _manually_ configure Motorola Phone Tools to
set the phone to a V323m rather than the automatically detected V325.
This is what is often omitted from people's instructions.
Once in Phone Tools, do the following:
1. Press F6
2. Click on the "Communication Tab"
3. Click on "Change Modem"
4. Click on "Next"
5. Click on "Next"
6. Check the box that says "Do not automatically detect the driver.
Select from a list.
7. Click on "Next"
8. Click on "Motorola CDMA"
9. Select "V323m"
10. Click on "Next"
11. Click on "Finish"
If you do only the SEEM edit, then the Multimedia function still won't
work. If you do only the Motorola Phone Tools change, the Multimedia
function still won't work.
As always, there is the precautionary note about changing the SEEM voids
the warranty, though you can always change it back.
Note that all of this works with the V325, I'm assuming that the V325i
is almost identical other than the addition of Bluetooth.
All this sounds complicated, but it really takes only a few minutes to
set up. MPT and the cable is under $10, and is worthwhile to have
anyway, just for the phone book editing and archiving. The ringtone and
photo transferring is an added bonus.

Where can I buy MPT and the cable? I thought it was more like $60 or
$100 for MPT?

This includes two cables, the second one is for the V60, V120, V276, etc.

| The easiest and cheapest way to get a custom ring like a phone, is to record
a real phone ringing. The v325 can record any sound and that can be set as
a ring tone. However, the real benefit is that the sound that I recorded is
also followed by 7 seconds of quiet so that actual ring is only heard a one
or two times, giving me ample time to pick up the phone and answer it before
it rings again.

Motorola Phone Tools.
The cable for the V325 is simply a standard USB to mini-USB cable.
You can buy both together for under $10. Then you can transfer any .wav
file, MP3 file, etc to your phone as a ring tone.
I'm using the Bell System mechanical ringer tone now. It's very retro.
Lots of good tones at "http://freesound.iua.upf.edu"
Again, in order for the V325 to be fully compatible with Motorola Phone
Tools you have to do some editing of the phone firmware because Verizon
disabled photo transfers and ringtone transfers.

Sounds good, since I have a V60 and V120 as well (backup phones now)

Why did they do that, since they don't seem to have done it to their LG
phones?

| Even easier is to find a mid file on the internet, and mail
to the yourphone@vzwpix.net
Then save it.

| actually yourphone@vzwpix.com
true, you'll pay pix message charge, but if it's only one or
two tunes to transfer, it's acceptable.
There are also many programs to convert from another format to mid and there
are many midi web sites.
