problem with SMS replies to @vtext emails
|
|
|
| Hi,
Let's say I send a message to 12345@vtext.com, with the subject "Test
Subject" and body "test body".
A Verizon cell phone with the # 12345 will get my email as an SMS. It
will consist of
"Test Subject" followed by "test body".
So far so good.
However, if I reply to that message, type as my reply "test body 2"
and send - the email I'll get back will have "test body 2" as BOTH the
body AND the subject. My original subject will be nowhere to be found.
Who should I contact at Verizon to fix this (since the default and
normal behavior in this case is to put "Re: " in front of the original
subject - it is done that way in email as well as in other phone
carriers (e.g., T-Mobile)?
Or is it just a problem particular to my phone model?
Thanks!

It doesn't work this way on my phone, which is a LG VX-4400. The email is
converted to the following SMS message:
"(Test Subject) test body"

I just checked. That's how mine works. Then as an experiment I tried
replying with the following SMS message:
"(subject) body"

Suggest you try...
"(Re: Test Subject) test body 2"
How does that work for you?

It seems to be the normal behavior for the SMS<->email gateway at
vtext.com.

| Unfortunately, this is not what I am after.
I would like the recipient of my original mail to be able to hit reply
on his phone, type his reply (without having to retype the subject),
and have the original email subject (possibly with "Re:" in front of
it) attached to this message when it is forwarded to me (the original
email sender) by the VText.com's gateway.
In other words, I simply want to get the same behavior that any mail
server has today, that is:
1. John sends Jim an email titled "hello"
2. Jim gets John's email and clicks Reply in his email program
3. Unless Jim manually changes the subject line, the subject line of
Jim's reply will be "Re: Hello"
Does anybody know who to contact at Verizon in order to make their
gateway behave the same way that every other email gateway behaves?
Thanks!

Call the CS phone number, then ask for data support. I'm pretty sure
they'll tell you this is the intended behavior, because they don't
care to fix it.

And, just to play Devil's advocate, why should they fix it? SMS isn't e-
mail, so there's no reason SMS should have the same behavior as e-mail,
anymore than an iced tea should taste like lemonade.
If you want "e-mail behavior" use e-mail... There's only so much you can
do with 160 characters! ;-)

Then why do they keep putting lemons in my tea?;-)

To counteract the sweet taste of the sugar, of course.
