Author My cuurent plan is expiring

I now have a 4-line family plan: $79.97/mo access fee and 500 shared
minutes. That plan expires in April. What happens then? Can I just
continue to pay the same amount?

The currently offered plans start at $87.97/mo access fee and 700
shared minutes. We never use anywhere near the 500 minutes we have
now.

We're eligible for one NE2, and discounts on the other phones, but we
don't really need to upgrade our present phones.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Art Harris

You mean your contract expires? In that case, you can just keep on
under your current plan.

I've been on the same plan since Verizon was called AirTouch, most of
the time with no contract, and the plan hasn't existed for years.

You can just keep on keeping on. No changes required after your contract
expires.

You have to take a new contract to use NE2. If you're happy with the
phones you have, you can just continue the way things are now (except
there's no early termination fee after the contract is up :).

What if buy a phone on my own (like on eBay)? Any problem getting it
activated without a contract? And how would I de-activate the old one?

Make sure Verizon will activate the phone before you buy it. For that
you'll need the ESN. Deactivation is automatic with a new activation. I
wouldn't buy one on Ebay as I'd want to inspect it first. I've found
www.craigslist.org to be a good source for used private-party phones.

I keep an old phone charged so I can activate it on the spot in an
emergency. Even then it could become obsolete and VZW might not
activate it. In a real emergency it will still work for 911.

OTOH, I've done very well buying phones on eBay-- buying over a dozen.

I prefer private party sellers who got new phones-- rather than the big used
phone dealer/resellers. They buy them in bulk and resell them knowing
nothing about the phone or its condition. Most of them will replace a DOA--
but that's a PIA plus expensive with the shipping.

I also won't buy from anyone who has less than a 99% positive feedback
rating and has sold at least 10 items.

Forever. Verizon is that stupid. Churning results if they try to screw
you.

Get a 99 cent bagphone from a thrift shop that plugs into the cigarette
lighter socket. Even a dead car battery will dial 911 on a 3W bagphone if
you take the interior lights loads off it for a few minutes. Then, you
won't have to worry if the emergency phone in the trunk was charged or not.
It doesn't have a battery.

There's one in every one of my vehicles set to STD A/B so it will find one
or the other 800 AMPS systems for that 911 call.
