Verizon wireless - D-Link Bluetooth Pair Issue

I purchased a D-Link USB Bluetooth Adapter so I could pair my Verizon LG
8300 and my Laptop. I set up the D-Link on the laptop then attempted to
pair the LG 8300. It recognized the laptop then asked for the passkey
code. Verzion tells me I need their VZAM program and their Broadband
package for $59.00 PER MONTH to get the passkey code. Having received
misinformation almost every single time I phoned Verizon, I decided to
bring my problem here. Was I informed correctly or are there options
available? My main use of this Bluetooth pairing is to use my laptop to
manage my cell phone book. Many thanks for any wisdom you may have for me.

VZW is full of crap. You don't need anything else from VZW.

I've been using my PC with a bluetooth adapter syncing with the 8300 and
Bitpim for 3 months and no problems. The passcode is a number that
*you* choose, not VZW. Just enter in number of your choosing and you
should be set.

Also be prepared for SLOW transfer speeds over bluetooth. Actually it's
also slow using a usb cable.

The way this should work, the _first_ time, is that you key in some desired
passcode on one device and it attempts a connection with the other device.
The other device needs to have that same passcode keyed in to complete the
connection. After the first time, the passcode should be remembered and
auto-pair as soon as either device requests a connection.

I suppose the phone could be crippled by Verizon, but then I think everyone
would have the same code buried anyway, and you could find it with a google
search.

Thanks, guys! Once again I've learned not to take Verizon info without
doublechecking it. I entered a matching passkey and my phone and laptop
paired.

If you are trying to do EVDO over this setup, it is a loser. BT is way too
slow, you need the USB cable and a USB2 connection, with that setup you can
get bursts over 1 MBS, with bluetooth you will top out around 150KBS, trust
me, I tried it.
