LG VX8600: Does it have an External Antenna Connector?
|
|

| Hello Group!
I'm thinking seriously of buying the 8600 but I do use my current 6100
in the RV and occasionally like to use the cell phone to connect to the
Internet. When in remote areas I've used a Wilson Cellular Antenna with
the 6100 and wonder if the 8600 has an antenna connector also?
Thanks!

Check with Wilson.

| Thanks Barbara,
Wilson has a part number for an external antenna adapter for this phone.
But, on the other hand, LG Tech Support says that the phone doesn't
have an external antenna connector. So, I thought I'd ask the *owners*
of the phone, not the manufacturers, to try to get the best information.

That's surprising. Wilson usually gets it right.
Since I don't own one of these either, we will have to try to get one
of current VX8600 owners to look for a connector. Can you go to a
Verizon store and look at one?
I guess most folks could care less, but I also use the Wilson external
antennas for travel, and never buy a phone without a connector. Good
Luck!

I've had the VX8600 since the beginning of the year and AFAIK it does
not have a connector (I don't have a pinout). That and the poor
speakerphone are the main detractions for me. Oh yea, and no Java.
Otherwise I really like this phone.
A repeater would solve your antenna conections for all phones in one
swell foop.

I don't know what you think you're seeing here, but I have an 8600 in
one hand and the manual in other, and I don't see any indication that
any form of external antenna is supported. The phone has two connection
points. One is for microSD (btw having this externally accessible is
_much_ nicer than what Motorola did with the RAZR), the other is for
audio, charging and usb. Maybe the second could be used for an antenna
but I can't find anything in the manual to that effect.

| No, it's the round (removable) glossy rubber cover insert on the lower
portion of the back. Usually you gotta stick a pin in the edge to pry it
out. Inside is where the antenna connection would be.

I have a vx8600 and pried the glossy rubber cover off and it is the
port for the external antenna connector.

That's great, Billie
Now I can look for an ext amp/ant. Appreciate the time & risk of scratches.
Still considering a repeater instead of amp, though. No more connectors.
BTW there's a girl around here (East Tex) selling 1GB uSD's for $15.

| Thank you ALL, and especially Billie, for finally solving this question
for me. I'm off to the Verizon store to get my new 8600! I really
appreciate all of your efforts!
