I'm in the process of fleeing Nextel for Verizon and I'm looking for
some input on the VX8300 vs the VX8600 from LG. No, I don't want a
RAZR or a KRZR. My Nextel is a Motorola, and the new ones just don't
seem to have the same quality...

My main concerns are battery life, speakerphone quality, and signal
quality. From looking at both prones, as far as quality, both phones
seem fairly sturdy. Just from a glance, the side-mount speakers of
the VX8300 seem like they might pick up debris quicker, but then
again, how good is the intenna of the VX8600 compared to the antenna
of the VX8300.

Since the reviews on the net seem to have some good and bad about
both, I was hoping that someone might have some real-world opinions to
offer.

I've had an 8300 for about a year. It's the best phone I've ever had. The
internal speaker is loud enough that I rarely use the external speakers. The
signal quality is excellent, to the point that even at home I prefer to use
my cell over my pots line. I generally keep my phone on a charger in my
vehicle during working hours, so I'm not to sure about battery life, but
over the weekends when its not being charged, I'll loose one or two bars on
the battery. The phone is built well and the only gripe I have is the thin
plastic battery cover moves around a little when you're holding the phone.
It's never come off, but I don't like the slight "play" in it

Speakerphone - VX8300 is terrific, 8600 is the pits (worthless)
Battery life - VX8300 better, 8600 not too bad
Vibrate mode - VX8300 is terrific and will knock your socks off, 8600 is the
pits (worthless)
Signal quality - Equal
Sound qality - Equal

I have been a long time Motorola user, tried the VX8300, went back to Mot.
Tried the VX8600, and I love it. I agree the speakerphone does not compare
favorably to Motorola, but that is this phones only fault. Reception is
excellent. I was not as pleased with the reception of the VX8300, but it was
not bad. The big difference is the sound quality. That is why I like
Motorola, that is why I like the VX8600. The VX8300 was not bad, the VX8600
is just better. The VX8600 also has a better feel to it. No dead spot on the
earpiece, which I definitely found on the VX8300.

My 8300 (which I've had for about 8 or 9 months) is the first phone I've
owned that I haven't started getting an itch to get rid of before it's NE2
time. I'm perfectly content with it. Battery life is outstanding, durability
is great, volume is loud!

The speaker phone on the 8600 is the WORST.
If there is any ambient background noise, you have not shot.
I can barely hear mine if it is more the 12 inches away...the sound fires
out of the speaker on the outside of the top flip, which faces away from you
when the phone is open and in use.

I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone that gave me some feedback
about the 8300 vs 8600. I ended up getting the 8300 this past Friday
and so far the phone is working great. I still need to order a USB
cable and a memory card, but that's stuff I can get cheaper elsewhere.

Only problem I had was getting a bad phone number on one of the
phones. It's always fun to get a number that was previously owned by
a deadbeat that didn't pay their bills and enjoyed getting morbid and
obscene pictures texted to them.

Verizon gave me a new number Saturday afternoon, so that's *hopefully*
a non-issue now...

Yes, it does work very well, but it also works very slow. It's slow
with the cable too.

Be nice to get usb 2.0 speeds like other phones instead of the serial
com you get with the LG phones.
