Obviously not. The phrase "extended on your behalf" means whatever the
company paid for.

Nobody here really seems to know exactly what Verizon's policy is on
tuition.

It could be reimbursement after successfully completing a course -
that's how it worked the last time I took a class - one that my employer
wanted me to take, not one I was particularly interested in.

I can't remember what "successfully" was defined as, but I definitely
had to pass to get anything back, and IIRC, I had to get an A to get
100% reimbursement - it wasn't an issue since I aced the course.

But it could be that Verizon fronts the money - or at least part of the
money. If that's the case, then they have "extended" money "on your
behalf".

It could also be that after shelling out money for your education, their
policy states that if you don't stay with the company for a specified
period of time, you are responsible for paying it back.

The bottom line is, nobody was cheated into getting the benefit of
further education. Whatever Verizon's policy is, they knew it when they
enrolled in whatever education they got.

My employer has a policy on paying back relocation fees. If they pay
for your relocation and you don't even stay a year, you are responsible
for paying 100% of it back. If you stay for more than a year, but less
than 2 years, you are responsible for paying 50% of it back.

That seems reasonable to me. An education policy similar to that would
also seem reasonable.
