Moto E815 - how to clean/reset

| I just upgraded my wife's phone to a new Red KRZR. Her old Moto E815 will
be going up for sale. How do I wipe out everything and reset it to the
factory settings? I want to be sure that everything is cleared off before I
let it go.
Any advice, help?

| Menu, Phone Settings, Initial Setup, scroll down to Phone Clear, then do
Phone Reset. You will need to delete pictures and videos separately.

Keith, I've just bought an E815 ($79 on Alltel, new) and am interested in
what you've found or can find about ringtones and MP3 and video and
pictures before you sell it.
Will that phone copy an MP3 file off the transflash card onto the phone
memory, then use that transferred MP3 file as a ringtone?
Does it play MP3s off both the transflash card and the internal memory?
Can you store pictures and movies directly to the transflash in realtime?
Can you switch between transflash and internal memory for pictures,
music, movies, in the center-button menus of the various toys?
It's a great phone. I love mine. I don't understand what all the ruckus
is over ringtones. All I have to do is copy any MP3 file to the
transflash from the computer, then copy the MP3 file from transflash to
the internal memory and tell it to use that file as the ringtone for
whatever function I want. Does yours do that?
Thanks for any info. What do you want for it? I think Alltel will
reflash the software to theirs. I might buy it for a spare. I'll call
'em and check.
The other poster's instructions will do the reset. Copy your pictures,
videos and music off it to the transflash card to save them then delete.
Don't forget to copy off any voice recorder files to the transflash, too!

You can copy an .mp3 file from your computer to the
mico-card in the phone, but you cannot transfer the file to
the internal memory of the phone, nor can you use it as a
ringtone. Bummer.

If you flash the phone with either Motorola's firmware or Alltel's, you
can do all those things. In the MP3 player, there is a menu selection to
move files from the card to the internal memory. Then, from the ringtone
selector, you can use any MP3 file stored in internal memory as your
ringtone. The firebell I'm using is a sound effects MP3 file that was
posted with hundreds of others to an mp3 newsgroup.
As you don't care about the Verizon firmware all hobbled up in the phone,
ask another carrier reseller to reflash it before you try to sell it.
It'll be worth a lot more if it WORKS than if it's on Verizon
disconnected from its functions.
I bet one of the picture storage functions also missing on Verizon is
STORE ONLY, which is switchable from either internal memory or directly
to the transflash card. The over-the-air send functions are on the same
page as my STORE ONLY. Switching between memories is in the camera menu.

Yes you can, actually. Send a fake text message with the file attached
(send it to a spoof phone number like 999-999-9999), and when the
phone gives up, it'll leave the text message in the Outbox. From
there, open the text message and save the file to the phone memory.
Once you've done that, it'll be available as a ringtone. I did this
with my E815 not long after I got it and it worked like a charm.

I have found that to apply an mp3 file as a ringtone you have to edit
it to 20 about seconds. I have done this with freeware mp3 editing
software

You can also use the program called TONETHIS. You create your
own MP3 files from any sound file, song or whatever and then send
it to your phone via the internet. You can do the same with wallpaper.

"Monster Mash" does, it seems, create more of a stir than my old fashioned
fire alarm bell, the kind in an old school building. It plays until the
no-answer-transfer switches the caller to voicemail....at which time the
voicemail notification triggers my toilet flushing voicemail ringtone,
complete with tank refill....(c;
Skype calls all use a caller id of 000-123-4567, so I created a special
ringtone out of the Star Wars Main Theme, but the Boston Pops Orchestra,
for it...John Williams Conducting. I was fooling around loading a new
Skype into a new laptop with nice cam that's more pointable on the sales
floor at a local computer store...spyware?...and called my E185 to test it.
Star Wars plays really nice on the E815's speaker...(c;

Those full mp3 files take up a lot of space. How many of them can you
store as ringtones on the 815's internal memory. Can you use them as
ringtones when stored on the transflash card? Not with my carrier. I
believe it's a Motorola issue.
In any case I just use my phone to make and receive calls. How silly.

Often the security code is a series of zeroes. Try 0000, 00000, and 000000.

Yes, Verizon uses the last 4 digits of your phone number for the code
on the phones I've had.

You can't use files on the transflash card as ringtones, at least on my
Alltel phone. To ringtone them, you MOVE them from the transflash card
the computer stored them on, then tell the phone to make them a ringtone
only after you get them on the internal memory. That makes sense because
the phone would be lost if it had to access ringtones on the card and the
card was gone or modified....and it wouldn't ring.
I only have 5 ringtone MP3 files on internal memory, and only 1 of them
is a long one that goes on and on, to the delight of everyone...(c; The
"Toilet Flushing With Tank Fill" isn't very long, or is the "Belching and
Burping" when one of my animal friends calls.
I'm not sure how much of the internal memory you can hog in ringtones.
It would also depend if you had any apps or games, etc. My transflash
stores movies/music and other toys...It's as big as the phone supports,
1GB. The 2GB transflash isn't supported by the E815, a Moto issue as its
driver is too old. There were no 2GB transflash cards when it was
designed. Of course, you can carry as many tiny cards as you can STILL
FIND...(c; Someone needs to make a wallet carrier to store them in. I'm
not using much internal memory since I dumped Alltel's Axcess TV, 25-
channel cable TV app because they kept cutting it off every 10 minutes
and refused to fix their nag screen bullshit. TVs don't disconnect their
antennas every 10 minutes. Pay TV certainly shouldn't, either! CNN
Pipeline plays for hours on my laptop wifi for $25/year. It has many
channels to play without the cellphone company disconnect bullshit.
Can you MOVE MP3 files from transflash to internal memory on Verizon Moto
phones? Can you switch the phone from reading the transflash memory to
reading the internal memory when in Sounds mode, back and forth? When
you have internal memory selected as the source for the player, does one
of the center-button menu choices say "Apply As Ring Tone", which pops up
another menu so you can select which MP3 file on internal memory to play
for which ringtone function the phone needs?
I looked on a couple ZR models and didn't see the selection. Verizon
won't sell the E815 and I haven't seen them with an E816, its
replacement, either. These smartphones all have the same chipset, I'm
told.

message fails it will show the option to apply as a ringtone to the
internal memory. But as I said before it will not play an mp3 over 20
seconds as a ringtone but it will replay the tone over and over.

No, and that's the problem.
You also cannot choose an .mp3 from the transflash and
"apply as ring tone." You only have a choice from the
phone lists--those included with the phone, and those you
paid for.

I tried this, and when I tried to save the file that was
sitting in the Outbox, I got a "unknown file" error.
Apparently, it won't save attachments that are in .mp3
format (even though you can play them from your transflash
card.
I could convert to .wav, but then the file is so large, it
probably won't go through.

I think the original phone code won't let you run a ringtone from the
transflash and that makes sense to me. If you remove or format the card,
you'd get no ring as it found no files to play! So, you can either move
the MP3 (maybe other formats, too) files to internal memory so the phone
always has the file to play, even if the transflash if removed.
You folks need the MOVE command energized to move video/pictures/audio
files to/from the transflash card into/out of internal memory. Alltel's
has those commands and claim Alltel does not modify these type of
commands from the original Motocode. I find nothing hobbled on Alltel's
E815.
