Use New-Every-Two on FamilyShare 2nd line?
|
|
| Chris Craig 2007-04-16, 10:33 pm |

I currently have a 2-line FamilyShare plan and the contract is up. My
phone is the primary line, and my wife's phone is the second line.
Our two-year contract is up, and we are eligible for the New-Every-Two
discount.
I no longer need my phone. I would like to "downsize" our plan to a
single line, but I'd like to have the single line be my wife's phone
number, and I'd like to use the New-Every-Two to upgrade her phone.
Is this something that VZW is going to allow? Has anyone done
something like this recently? I just worry about the red-tape of
using the New-Every-Two which is probably "attached" to my phone
number, but then telling them that I want to cancel that line.

| That shouldn't be a problem. Keep in mind you are signing up for another two
year contract when you get the new phone

| I'm not following you. If your new phone replaced an existing phone, it
wouldn't cost $10 more per month, but if this is a new phone and additional
number, it would cost an additional $10 per month

| Verizon allows NE2 for the primary number only on a family share plan.
If you want to use NE2 for the secondary line, there is a way to get
around it.
First, you have to get the new phone on your primary line, then after 24
hours you can have it transferred to the secondary phone. They will want
to charge you 20 or 40 to reactivate but if you phone in and tell them
what you really want to do in advance, they may waive the reactivation
fee.

| What's that got to do with the $10 per month charge that Montano's talking
about?

This seems strange...we have had a family share plan for over four years
with my wife's phone being the primary line and mine the secondary one.
We have both received the NE2 twice during that period.
For information...what I understand NE2 to be, is $100.00 credit toward
a new phone with a new 2yr contract. Are we talking about the same
thing?

That's what NE2 is, I believe. I was told it does not apply to a line
you are only paying $9.99/month for.
But I jumped through the hoops and got the new phone to be on the second
line. And I cannot use NE2 for another 2 yrs, so if my (primary) phone
dies before then, I will have to pay the extra hundred.

Yes, discounted prices. Not NE2 save $100 prices. There is a difference.

Please explain the difference.
My understanding is that NE2 means you receive a $100 credit toward a
new phone. The difference between that and the cost of the new phone,
if it exceeds $100, with a new two year contract is borne by the
customer. If the phone cost is equal to or less than $100 it is
basically free except for applicable taxes.

That is the way we have done ours for the past several years.
No activation fees either.
Plan on doing that when I decide on my new smartphone (Q or XV-6700
unless something new comes along in the next couple of months).

The XV-6800 will be replacing the 6700 probably this summer. Essentially
it's the Windows Mobile 6 version of the 6700.
IIRC, the Q won't be replaced with a newer model, it'll have a WM6
firmware upgrade available.

NE2 is worth $100. Anytime you extend your contract you are eligible for
an upgrade discount.
from VZW:
"By extending your contract, you may qualify for a discounted price,
depending on when you last purchased a new phone at a discounted price,
and your contract term.
- Customers on a one-year contract may upgrade at a discounted price
after 10 months.
- Customers on a two-year contract may upgrade at a discounted price
after just 22 months.
Plus, if you're currently enrolled in our New Every Two program*, you
will be eligible for an additional discount with a two-year contract
extension.
You may always choose to upgrade without extending your contract at full
retail price."

Not necessarily. See below.

NE2 gets you $50 or $100, depending on the amount of your monthly
service.
http://support.vzw.com/features/cal..._every_two.html
How to Get It
You are automatically enrolled in our New Every Two program when you
sign up for a two-year agreement on a calling plan with a monthly
access of $34.99 or higher. If you maintain service on a calling plan
of $34.99 or higher and fulfill your two-year term, you will qualify
for a free phone. If your calling plan monthly access is $79.99 or
higher for the entire three months prior to completing your New Every
Two phone upgrade, you will get up to $100.00 toward the purchase of
that phone. If your calling plan monthly access was between $34.99 and
$79.98 at any time during the three months prior to completing your
New Every Two phone upgrade, you will get up to $50.00 toward the
purchase of that phone. When completing your New Every Two upgrade,
you will need to renew your agreement for another two years on a
calling plan with a monthly access of $34.99 or higher.
You must retain the same wireless handset for 24 months in order to
receive the full advantages of this program. If you choose to replace
your handset at a discounted price, you will forfeit your benefits and
be automatically reenrolled if you meet the requirements of the
program.
