RAZR V3m s/w ver. "NEWC_01.09.02"

Having trouble understanding the manual. 3 distinct questions:

1. How do I axe that stupid startup and shutdown (in my case verizon) sound
without switching to vibrate only?

2. The verizon reps say that verizon has blocked the phone's ability to do a
BT connection to a computer, because they were "afraid of people swapping
ringtones etc. for free." If this is true, is there a non-verizon driver or
addon that I can load this phone with instead to put that ability back?

3. I'm a java software engineer.....are RAZR's easily configured with custom
java applications?

Thanks

Use Google to search for Motorola "modding" sites.

Where do you live? Alltel will reflash it without the Verizon bullshit
if you switch. Alltel's doesn't support OBEX on Bluetooth, though.
Their AUP lists the same restrictions (email - web pages - company
intranet ONLY) that Verizon does on its "unlimited" 5GB/month broadband,
but I can't find anyone who ever got stung by enforcement, including the
Alltel people in the local office. I know someone who streams BBC Radio
on it a LOT and noone complains. Alltel's version will Bluetooth sync
right up.

Alltel doesn't play ringtone games, allowing me to move MP3 files to
internal memory and make ringtones out of them as Moto intended.
Nothing's locked up like VZW does.

Don't buy Alltel Axcess/MobiTV on the data service. It works great, but
Alltel DOES hobble it with stupid 10 minute disconnects/reboots/recache
so you can't sit and watch it unharrassed. I just dumped it for that
reason and bought CNN Pipeline for my wifi laptop...much better for news,
even if the picture wasn't 15" wide..(c;

*If* your goal is to tell me that I should have done more research via
google before asking here, then your reply is not appreciated.

Two issues make using usenet valuable in this particular regard: The term
"modding" was different from addons and applet, etc., so I didn't know the
best approach for searching to begin with. And even if I did, the question
was whether or not it was /easily/ configured with custom java applications,
something I wanted to talk about with someone with experience in that
context. I specifically directed this to a conversational resource for that
reason.

While not as many as some, In 12 years or so I have over 3000 technical
posts (programming) in usenet helping people. I've discovered this notion
that usenet is a help desk only for those who research a topic fully to be
common, but thankfully not dominantly so. Usenet is a conversational
resource, and conversations do *not* necessitate prior research, regardless
of how some will appoint themselves the teachers of men to fish.
